Mangaluru, Jun 2: State government employees, on strike against state government, boycotted their offices and observed symbolic protest demanding wage revision and hike on par with the central government scale here on Thursday, June 2.
In all parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts employees protested by boycotting their work. Government employees’ protest put common people into inconvenience as they were not aware of protest.
Speaking to daijiworld.com, Prakash Nayak, district president of Karnataka State Government Employees Association (KSGEA) said “We are demanding the government to provide salary on par with central government employees as per seventh pay commission recommendations. This is long pending demand"
He also said that as the pay state government employees is very less, newly appointed employees are quitting from the job.
Urging the state government for equal wages in accordance with the state and the union government employees, the semi-government employees of Mangaluru city corporation(MCC) under the banner of SK Municipal employees union, Mangaluru staged a protest under the name 'Bedike Dina'(Day of demands) in front of the MCC.
Explaining the need of the protest, the chief secretary of the SK Municipal employees union, Bhaskar said ” The demand of equal wages of the semi-government workers had been ignored in the state since 30 years. In 24 states, the semi-government workers enjoy the equal wages and benefits as same as state and the union government workers. Unfortunately, Karnataka is one among the few states which does not indulge in such act. It is a noteworthy fact that even in Bihar the semi-government workers are treated equally."
Justifying various facts in this regard he said, "The difference between the wages of state and union government and semi-government workers' comes to about 111.75 percent when we take the class A posts into consideration and it comes to 44 percent when it comes to class D workers. The chief minister Siddaramaih had promised equal wages but it has not been implemented."

Udupi: Karnataka State government employees stage mass protest

Udupi, Jun 2: Hundreds of Karnataka State government employees in the district staged massive protest on Thursday, June 2, in front of DC office, Rajathadri Manipal, demanding wage revision to bring in pay parity with Central government employees.
Addressing the protesters Subrahmanya Sherigar, president, KSGEA district unit said, "The State government is testing our patience. It is now essential for us to go on a strike to voice our demands. The association members met CM at state level convention which was held at Mysuru. Since then, CM has not called for negotiation. They have also issued BVR notice to the concerned department."
District employees association has organized four divisional conventions in the district. He said that they are completely neglected by the State and the members have decided one month back to hold the protest.
"There are nearly 1,40,000 vacancies in the state administration, which if filled can reduce the burden of work and if Chief Minister grants Rs 5000 crore for the welfare of government officials, this can solve half the problem." he added.
According to him, the disparity in salaries between the union and state government employees was between 44.06 to 111.33 percent depending on the rank of officials. The disparity in dearness allowance alone is between 20.51 to 87.78 percent.
