Bengaluru, Jun 4: Recently, a lady of 27 married a man of 64 in the city through love marriage. When the duo arrived at the office of the sub-registrar on Friday June 3 to register their marriage, parents of the girl beat up the groom black and blue.

Dr Akash Kumar (64), founder of National Institute Creative Centre near Hennur in the city, fell in love with a student, Krupa S Prajapathi (27), who is a student of fashion designing course run by his college. The two had married about two months back, overlooking objections from the bride's family. When the couple came to the office of the sub-registrar at Rajarajeshwari Nagar here, the girl's parents attacked the groom. However, the police said that no complaint was lodged with them relating to this incident. At the same time, Krupa said that she had married Akash on her own accord as she was unable to get love in sufficient measure from parents.

It is gathered that Akash had divorced his first wife earlier. When her parents launched the attack, Krupa angrily shouted at them and tried to block them, eyewitnesses said. The parents of Krupa pleaded with the officials at the sub-registrar's office not to register the marriage, alleging that Akash had enticed their daughter to marry him by offering money. "He brainwashed our daughter, took her away without our knowledge, and married her. This is not acceptable," they said with tears rolling down their eyes. They also said that they had given full liberty to their daughter and had given her a room with air-conditioner.

Krupa's father, Hasanmukh H Prajapathi, told media persons that his wife, Smitha, had attempted suicide after coming to know that her daughter had married a 64-year-old.
