Dubai: Yakshamitras present Yakshagana programme ‘Virochana Tharanisena’

Dubai, Jun 4: A rare ‘Jnyana Yajnya’ programme of Yakshagana ‘Virochana-Tharanisena’ held at Sheikh Rashid auditorium of Indian High School Dubai on Friday, June 3 from 4.30 pm drew attention of packed Yakshagana lovers in the emirate.

After holding Chowki Pooje and Rangapooje by Laxmikanth and Venkatesh Shrastri and lighting the traditional lamp, the Yakshagana was set in motion.

Chief guests Pravin Kumar Shetty, Harish Sherigar, Premnath Shetty, Sathish Venkataramana, Raghurama Shetty and artistes Patna Sathish Shetty, Yakshamithra leaders Dinesh Shetty and Chidananda Poojary were on the dais.


Kateel Mela famous artistes of melodious voice Patla Sathish Shetty and Ravichandra Kannadikatte who had specially arrived for the programme entertained the audience.

Guruprasad Bollijadka, Venkatesh Shastri, Madhur Laxminaraya Sharma, Bhavani Shanker Sharma and Chandramohan played the traditional musical instruments.

Local artistes Kishore Gatti Uchila, Chidananda Poojary Vamanjoor, Krishna Prasad Bhat, Ravi Bhat, Prabhakara Suvarna, Sudhakar Thumbe, Balakrishna Shettigar, Bhavani Shanker Sharma, Vasu Bayaru, Sharanya Venkatesh Bhat, Prapthi Jayananda Pakkala, Adithi Dinesh Shetty, Aditya Dinesh Shetty, Thanish Prakash Pakkala, Thanvi Prasanna, Anvi Jagannath Bellare, Yashaswini Shekar Poojary, Krishna Raja Rao Abu Dhabi, Smrithi L Bhat, Manaswi Sharma, Girish Narayan Katipalla, Sandeep Shetty, Seetharam Shetty, Jayanth Shetty, Shashikanth Shetty Karkala, Vasanth Shervegar, Aniketh Sharma, Prateek Pakkala, Sushanth Ram Jeppu, Samantha Hegde, Sharath Poojary, Swathi Sharath Saralaya, Daksha Ravindra Kotian, Sathwik L Bhat, Sathish Shettigar, Apoorva Durgesh Shettigar, Yashaswini Shekar Poojary and Ashik Shekar got the platform for the artistic prowess under the direction of experienced Shekar D Shettigar.

Ambassadors of future Yakshagana generation:

Children between five and fifteen years studying in the Gulf who have been learning Yakshagana with their studies presented their artistic skills on the stage, got applause from the audience and became future ambassadors of art.

The costumes and make up by Gangadhar Shettigar and Laxman Kumar Marakada and stage management by Dinesh Bejai, Bhaskar Marga and Anand Salian were attractive and drew attention.

As per tradition, artistes who came to UAE from hometown were welcomed by Yakshamithraru on behalf of non resident Indians.

Padyana Ganapathi Bhat who has learnt singing by being in Dharmastala Yakshagana Kendra and later in Surathkal Mela has served in Mangaladevi Mela for the last eight years and is being hugely respected. He was felicitated on behalf of Yakshagana art lovers for participating and singing in ‘Virochana – Tharanisena’.

Shashikanth Shetty in women's costumes was congratulated on behalf of art lovers for his rare performance. Guruprasad Bollinjadka who has been serving in Kateel Mela for the last seventeen years playing Chende was also honoured.

Sathish Shetty Patla, who has been Yakshagana singer for several years and participated in the programme was also felicitated on the occasion.
Sudheer Kumar Shetty, Sarvothama Shetty, Ashok Shetty Mumbai and chief guests participated in the felicitation programme. Gangadhar Shettigar and Laxman Kumar were honoured for costumes and make up respectively by presenting mementos. Leading businessmen in the gulf and art lovers who have promoted and encouraged the art by being sponsors were also felicitated by presenting mementos.

A documentary about 'Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Trust', started by Sathish Shetty Patla was shown in the end. Information on starting of Yakshagana unit in Dubai was conveyed while requesting for cooperation from all.

Ashok Shet, Pravin Kumar Shetty Konchadi, Ramananad Shetty who had arrived from Mumbai and Muscat were presented flower bouquets. The practice rehearsals by Dinesh Shetty Kottinja, Chidananda Poojary and group for the last six months helped make the programme a success.

Vittal Shetty and Rajesh Kuthar compered the programme. The thirteenth year's presentation by Yakshamithra in UAE has been commended by all and created history.

    Really good to know yakshagana shining in desert land. While looking the crowd..people are still more attach to yakshagana/baylatas..still in digital age. Well-done organizers one and all indivduals made it successful.

    Every moment of the performance was wonderful and was a treat to watch. the coordination of the maddale, the Chandey and the footwork was coordinated very well. Enjoyed every Bit of the Show.

    One more success show from YAKSHA MITHRARU, DUBAI..

    All the artists done well and both the shows were excellent.

    Especially BALA KALAVIDA'S they improved a lot on their acting and "ARTHAGAARIKE"
