Sullia: Temple manager gored to death by bull at Bellare

Daijiworld Media Network - Sullia (SP)

Sullia, Jun 7: In a tragic incident which occurred at Bellare on Monday June 6, manager of Lord Mahalingeshwara temple at Ajapila Bellare was killed after the temple bull pierced him with its horns.

Temple manager, Narayan (40), died in the incident. It is gathered that a bull was living in the vicinity of the temple, and it was being looked after by temple staff. The huge and tall bull received food normally from the hands of Narayan.

On Monday, Narayan had approached the bull which was tethered a little distance away from the temple to release it and bring it near the temple during the puja. It suddenly inserted its horns into his body, it is said. Although others tried hard to restrain it by pulling at the rope, the bull was too strong to be controlled, it is learnt.

Narayan was killed on the spot. The body was taken to the government hospital here for postmortem, after which it was handed over to his family members.

The deceased was a native of Kalanjeri, Pailar. He was residing at Bellare, and was working as temple manager since 15 years.

Wonder why temples torture cows, bulls, elephants and other animals by chaining and restricting their freedom.

Animals are treated very carelessly at temples as per animal lovers, society for prevention of cruelty to animals.

I request temple to use small cows calfs for doing pooja. Bull of this size can do anything like elephants. They should be left alone in their shed's with other cows. So feeling sorry for manager. Some people are happy in this forum writing nonsense. Only experienced people need to handle large animals and always need to maintain safe distance from them. Please do respect them and its freedom.

Death is the only thing that nobody can predict. May his soul rest in peace. Dog and horse are the only animals more reliable than other animals. We have seen so many cases of temple elephants killing human beings. Well fed and no physical work leads to animals turning to violence.

    Mr. Bhoja,

Trust me - not because its related with temple. Animals look for company of their type when they turn adults. Nobody is peeping into the temple gau-shaalas whether there are cows too or this bull alone. Whether he is allowed to go near the cows or used for pooja alone. Whether there is some kind of abuse happening and the bull is grudgeful against the referred person. Questions do arise but they are not because the bull belongs to a temple.
