Unhappy with Shyam Bhat’s name as KPSC Chairman

Bengaluru, Jun 7: In a major embarrassment to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the State Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa has expressed his serious reservations against the recommendation of Bengaluru Development Authority Chairman T Shyam Bhat’s name for appointment as the chairman of Karnataka Public Service Commission.

“The Chief Minister has not done right thing in recommending Bhat’s name to the KPSC chief’s post,’’ Thimmappa remarked while speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

It may be recalled that Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala has not cleared the name of Bhat.

The Chief Minister should have exercised caution in recommending a person for a constitutional post like KPSC, especially after the controversies surrounding the body in the recent past.

The Governor had sought a report from the Karnataka Lokayukta regarding allegations of irregularities in BDA during his tenure as the chief of BDA.

It is learnt that the governor has written to Lokayukta Registrar seeking the details of allegations about irregularities in denotification of lands in Arkavathy Layout and distribution of alternative sites in Kempegowda Layout.

The Siddaramaiah regime had earlier recommended former Legislative Council Chairman V R Sudarshan for the KPSC chairman’s post, which was rejected by the Governor.

In yet another instance, the Siddaramaiah regime had suffered embarrassment as its recommendation of the name of Justice S R Nayak for the post of Karnataka Lokayukta had also been rejected by the Governor.

Anupama Shenoy’s action 'unbecoming of police officer’'

Incidentally, the Speaker felt that the decision of the Kudligi Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Anupama Shenoy in resigning her post to express her disgust openly in the public was “totally unjustified” as she was a police officer.

“Whether she (Anupama Shenoy) is interested in the government service or not, it is unbecoming on her part to express disappointment publicly,” the Speaker said when asked to comment on Shenoy tendering her resignation.

The police officer should have informed her grievances to senior officers and sought suitable redressal by using the official route, Kagodu Thimmappa said.

He felt the State Government should take suitable disciplinary action against her if the reported comment by Shenoy that the "`Siddaramaih government was Rum government.”

Ms Shenoy’s had launched a crackdown on several illicit liquor manufacturers in the Kudligi constituency and imprisoned them in the recent past.

This guy has the audacity to talk inappropriately to the situation. Dear speaker: you are an elected representative. Please do understand that peoples sympathy lie with the honest and sincere lady officer. You are not a king nor a colonial ruler.

Please also understand the near extinction status of Congress party. Do you think your comments help your party?

It is sad that Kagodu instead of denouncing the system that caused Anupama's resignation is finding fault with her. I hope there will be a big movement to urge Anupama to return to her job. The CM must take initiative. Otherwise the Government will be known as rum government
