Mangaluru: Heavy rains lash city, many places flooded with water

Mangaluru, Jun 8: Heavy rains lashed the city on Wednesday morning, June 8. Though the rains have become normal these days, people were unaware that such heavy rains would be experienced before the arrival of monsoon. 

Monsoon is expected to arrive in Kerala on Thursday, Jun 9 as per recent reports.

Many parts of the city are flooded presently. Rains continue in most parts of the city. 

The weather is still cloudy and more rains are likely to pour by evening.

    This must indeed be a great a relief to the parched City of Mangalore. Hope the monsoons continue all over and fill the water tanks and reservoirs which provide water for the hydro-electric plants.

    All communities should join and thank The Almighty God and beseech Him to continue to help the residents of Mangalore and other places too.

    Finally rain has arrived, much to the relief of the people of Mangaluru and surrounding areas. Of course, flooding will be there due to heavy rains and poor drainage.

    Stupid people now they will start blaming the drainage system or the Municipality for this blockages without realising their own mistakes for such things. Throughout the year they throw chocolate wrappers, gutka packets, cigarette buds and all garbages into these streams and now they blame the authorities for blockages.These idiots will learn lesson only when they drown in these streams.

    This is the result of poor drainage facility clubbed with the cutting down of the trees to make way for the skyscrapers. No wonder if Mangalore becomes Tamilnadu in the coming days. Corruption, Money, Greed and here comes the aftermath. No Matter what will be the plight of the poor citizens the concerned authority will never wake up.

    Mangalore can never and should never be a smart city if its basic infrastructure like drainage is in a pre-historic state.Cities with heavy rainfalls should have proper drainage system. I went to Singapore 30 years ago when their were not yet so developed as today. Since they are on the equator they also have a heavy rainfall now and then. But they had already at that time very deep trenches on both sides of the road. A minute after the rain stopped the roads were bone dry.

    dear mangaloreans, who cribbed why Naidu didnt chose mangaluru as "smart city".. this is the reason! No proper drainage system. no garbage collections in periodic manner, no way to recover the pending "electricity and water bills by bigwigs till chiltoos, corruption by corporation, cuts in road repair to electric poles" result is a little rain and roads get clogged. stay with this- its a curse for you!
