Drive to strictly implement school bus regulations - SP Borase

Daijiworld Media Network-Mangaluru (JD)

Mangaluru, Jun 22: The superintendent of police (SP) Bhushan Gulabrao Borase said that the police department has taken Trasi School Omni van accident very seriously and has planned to conduct a drive to strictly implement the school bus regulations very strictly.

He was speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday, June 21 at his office.

"In the first phase, the constables will visit the schools and collect data about all the vehicles which bring the school children. Next Sunday, we will hold a meeting with all the school heads and vehicle drivers of Bantwal and Puttur region to implement all the mandatory guidelines. The guidelines include painting the vehicle yellow and no overspeeding etc." Borase added.

Drive to increase visibility in highways

The SP also said that as less visibility has been a major reason for the rise in accidents on the national highways, a drive by police department with the coordination from NHAI, forest department, and MESCOM will be conducted.

A request will put to cut the branches of the trees which obstruct the visibility on roads, SP said.

"Sign boards and reflectors in the curves will be installed along with other measures to reduce the number of accidents on highways." SP said.

Wow!!!!people will learn from mistakes!!!is it possible to bring those young children back to life, is it possible to console their parents.
I feel devastated to say that we are responsible for all that is happening in our society. Each and everyone has a responsibility towards the society. We keep fighting for religion, property, name, fame, money and all other material needs.
If we had fought for each other, for human race, today those children would have been alive.
Time is precious I agree, but not at the cost of someones life.
All drivers on road should realize this.
At the end of the it is the bus owners association in Dakishna Kannada which does not want to follow government rules and regulations because they will suffer huge losses.
So a few bus owners are stronger than the population of Dakshina Kannada.

To control the speed, follow the system done in saudi... The police keep small camera boxes on main roads, the rest of the work is done by the black camera box... keep on changing the place of the camera box... for the beginning start with 50 camera boxes, the RUDE DRIVERS will learn a lesson for ever, But the Police should not be lenient once the pictures of speeding vehicles are recorded.....good luck....

Mark my words, you will not find a quality driver in India, except few! I have seen the quality of Driving School’s instructors in Mangalore and Udupi and surrounding areas. They teach learning drivers like – ‘ Adu ottu, Edu Ottu, Break Haku, Horn Haku etc. !, have you ever seen any traffic police vehicle patrolling Udupi – Mangalore highway ?, look at this road the way express bus drivers drive and the goods trucks they drive, they don’t even know which one is slow lane and which one is speed lane, almost all these buses and trucks you will find them on speed lanes at times going at snail speed, specially trucks with heavy loads. In one instance I have seen a traffic police coolly following a snail speeding truck on the speed lane !. High time to educate our Police on the traffic rules first, then comes citizens, if law keepers are ignorant, what we can expect them to implement on roads ??

It is a very tragic incident and heart rendering concern. However such incidents happen and slowly we all forget at a later date. In this context kindly remember it is no use to blame any department, but it is worthwhile to take necessary safety measures not repeat such incidents/accidents in future. This can be achieved by the District Administration (DC) and School Authorities need to work out without any flaws (how silly it is) in this matter. The incidents can be categorized and every month such reports should be given to District Administration through DDPI. This way safety awareness will be imparted on students at a primary school level. Regular monthly meetings between parents and school authorities on safety awareness is a must. Hope to have a constructive look ahead plan soon in future. Kindly note all IAS & IPS officers are technically qualified and I hope the implementation of this system may be an issue.

Not only school vehicles. but, We need to completely change the system of "training, testing, issuing driving licenses.
If anyone wants a driving license, today you approach a driving school and they will say "10 classes, 5000 rupees and driving license will be in hand.
Approach RTO for driving license, they will lightly take a test and issue the DL without properly checking if the person is fit to be on the road.
Thus our corrupt system gives us "killer drivers" or "suicide drivers" on the road.
A survey shows that the whopping 3300 people die in India due to road accidents.
Driving in India is so pathetic that people in the house will keep on praying until their loved ones return safely home after a travel.
We need a change, we need a change.

Instead of eradicating the rout causes, they are going to the school and school buses. First control the buses and trucks running on the road. Put control over the speed limits of the buses. If they not follow cancell the bus licence and the cancel the driving licence permanently. Which policy cannot do. Then go to the school and the school buses problem. Solve the main problem. After this issue if you are not able to find the actual problem then it is going to be the same.

hanging on the bus doors in private buses is a time pass fun for the youngsters when there is seat in side don't want to sit there..

First question, were you waiting for this disaster and so many kids death to take this step ? Why always we work post disaster, why not proactive steps taken ?

Why no words on reckless drivers and the killing busses ? Are you scared or bus owners ? If not, you should have taken that step firs to control the reckless driving by these evils or killers so called bus drivers.

Third question, Is it just a declarations which is usual while such disasters or any plans to implement it till closure ?

Forth, just close your eyes and imagine / feel it's your kids lost in this accident and think what and all actions you might have taken after this accident.

We the public are always keeping trust on authorities and police. that's why the condition have worsened so much. So, before we completely loose the trust, please ensure you do something worth.

Most of the private Heavy Vehicle drivers are youngsters. Govt Busses taking lot of care while hiring Drivers. I request the Concerned Authorities monitor the speed of the Heavy Vehicles(Busses, tankers, trailers, trucks) if they violate the limited speed fine should be imposed on meterwise include light vehicles.

Mr. SP good step. But this is not enough. First of all you need to crack down on the auto rickshaws and mini buses and omni's which stuff kids like cattle and transport them to school. The number of causalities/deaths in Trasi would have been much much less if the omni seated only 5 people than stuffing in 18. I believe the traffic department should be conducting a special training course and issue special licenses to drivers who drive school buses and other vehicles that transport school children

Lipa Poti. Just improving the visibility and painting of School buses will not stop accidents from happening. What if a Truck has poor visibility and it hits School bus, at that time you will improve the visibility of Truck. On road it is not necessary my mistake will kill me, it can be others mistake for which I will be paying with my life.

So Defensive driving Training, Testing and Certification should be Mandatory. Like Before we had only Ration Card for one's Identity now we have Adhar Card also. Same Way along with Driving License Driver should have Defensive Driving Training Certificate also. No other Go. Secondly Traffic Signs on Road should be more visible.

even though we can say that each school has to provide transport to all their students, it may not be easy for schools. If a school has 1000 students how many busses it needs, where to park all those busses, how much extra space it needs for parking, managing & supervising those drivers & so many other issues will arise & it will be big burden to school management. Instead licenses can be given to private transport companies with special yellow painted buses & with trained drivers. also a attendant is required to oversee safety of children while on bus, boarding & alighting, while crossing the road etc.
