Bantwal: Theft - Vittal police arrest six, recover assets worth Rs 20 lac

Bantwal, Jun 23: Police personnel attached to Vittal station in the taluk have succeeded in busting several cases of theft that had been occurring within the jurisdiction of that police station since about a year. Six accused have been arrested relating to stealing of things like vehicles, areca nut and cows. Stolen items worth about Rs 20 lac have been recovered from the arrested accused, said Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police (SP), Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, addressing a press conference at the town police station here on Wednesday June 22.

The persons arrested are Barik (32) from Kudtamugeru in Kolnadu village in the taluk, Basheer (25) and Saifuddin (19), residents of Radhukatte, Kodungayi in Vitlapadnur village, Ashraf (19) from Kadambu Quarters, Jabir (26), resident of Balepuni village, and Zubair K (23), a native of Kudtamugeru-Karai. They reportedly stole areca nut from an areca nut shop at Kudtamugeru downtown, and also from the house of Srinivas Acharya after feeding poison to his pet dog. They were also involved with the theft of areca nut from the compound of Suribail mosque, house of Kodange Ermenile Ratnakar Shetty, and also from a shop near Kambalabettu Dargah. They also were involved with the theft of cows from the cattle shed of a house at Alakemajalu Belantija, he explained.

Two cars, a pick-up truck, an auto rickshaw, and 1,500 kg areca nut were confiscated from the arrested accused. Total value of these items has been estimated at Rs 20 lac, Borase said. He added that one of the accused, Basheer, faces 19 cases of vehicle thefts all over the district besides similar cases in Kasargod and Manjehwar, abduction and raping of minor girl from within the limits of Vittal police station in which case he was jailed for 18 months and released recently. The others too face several cases, he added.

He praised the achievement of deputy superintendent of police here, Bhaskar Rai, circle inspector, K U Belliappa, Vittal police sub-inspector, Prakash Devadiga, and other staff. He said that a cash reward of Rs 10,000 has been announced in appreciation of this successful feat.

On this occasion, the SP also stated that relating to theft of gold from Apoorva Jewellery Shop at B C Road by an employee, Pinto Rawat from Hoogli district in West Bengal, who had absconded with 274 grams of gold, the police have succeeded in finding his whereabouts, arresting him from West Bengal and recovering gold worth five lac rupees.

    I feel more than police the community too need to put them apart and keep a spl observation on them, apply to all casts, religion whoever indulge in such things

    MAHA CATCH......Congrats to Vittal Police and DK SP. They got(thieves)seventy time theft punishment from God's court because of holy month of RAMZAN.All are energetic youngsters who are able to work of any kind for living.They should be get harsh punishment in Jail.
