Bengaluru: BKCS celebrates 20th anniversary- Lorna, Claud weave musical magic

Media release

Bengaluru, Jun 28 : The Bangalore Konkani Catholic Sangh (BKCS), Koramangala celebrated its 20th anniversary at Good Shepherd Auditorium on Sunday, June 26.

President William Pinto welcomed the guests, artists and jam packed audience. Ronald Pinto, managing director Hyssna International LLC was the chief guest, FKCA chairman Arun Fernandes was the guest of honour and Austin Roach CMD, Charishma Hotels and RBD Shelters LLP presided over the function.

In his address Ronald Pinto appreciated the good work done by the BKCS members. He called upon the members to give something back to our society, reach poor people of interior villages or adopt a village and do something substantial and said "I am with you"

Austin Roach lauded the BKCS members for their charity work in education, medical specially assistance to Thalassemia children. BKCS conducted Melwyn Peris Nite in the year 2011 in aid of Thalassemia project of St John's hospital, Bengaluru and donated Rs 6 lac to this noble cause.

Lorna and Claud enthralled full capacity audience in Good Shepherd Auditorium here. Lorna Cordeiro popularly known as Nightingale of Goa performed first time ever in Bengaluru. Lorna was one of the dominant Goan singers, She regards Chris Perry as her guru and credits him for bringing to light her singing talent and making her a popular singer. She sang famous songs like Bebdo, Pisso, Tuzo Mog, Calangute etc.

'Konkan Kalashree' Claud D'Souza who is an acclaimed singer, composer and actor along with his group Jyotsna, Ashwin and Denora added the Mangalurean spice with famous numbers like Wilma Maria, Oh Beauty, Konkan Taram and so on.

It was a superb performance touching a chord in every Mangalurean and Goan heart in Bengaluru. In fact this was the first ever performance by Goan and Mangalurean artists performing together on a stage.

Making people laugh is an art, which very few people have been able to master. In the Konkani cultural scene Comedy King Dolla is the one who stands out as a comedian. He along with Leslie Rego delivered rib-tickling jokes with punch lines.

Lorna, Claud and Dolla were felicitated during vote of thanks. At the end baila was played by Claud and his group and Lorna was seen dancing to the baila tune.

The show was ably compered by inimitable master of ceremony Leslie Rego.

One of the best shows organised by a Konkani Association. Had a few friends who were not even catholics/know Konkani who came to witness Lorna for the gem that she is. My request to BKCS to please get the movie "Nachom ia Kumpasar" Konkani based on the life of Lorna and Chris Perry to be screened in Bangalore. A lot of people want to watch this but, is not been screened here. Will be great if we can get this done here in Namma Bengaluru.

A rocking, highly enjoyable, memorable, music and entertainment programme by Lorna, Claud and their groups, well organised by BKCS, Bengaluru, ably compered by Naveen Rodrigues and Leslie Rego.

Dolla's rib-tickling encounters with Leslie Rego kept the audience's spirits high. Hope Bengaluru gets an opportunity to watch and enjoy many such programmes, in future.
