Karkala, Jul 16: In an incident which happened at Kerabettu in Kalya village in the taluk on Thursday July 14, a youth raped a mentally challenged girl student.
The accused has been identified as Ganesh Poojary (34), a local. Poojary, an agriculturist by profession, is married. He raped the girl when there was no one at her home, it is gathered.
The accused stands arrested by the rural police here. He has been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
