Kasargod: Sand mafia attack on policemen - one held

Kasargod, Jul 23: The personnel of the town police station here have arrested a person connected to sand mafia in connection with efforts made to kill policemen of the raiding party by pushing them into the rivulet.

The arrested youth has been identified as Muhammed Riaz (30) from Vidyanagar Kofe. The policemen are searching for the other involved in the said act.

After they got information that illegal sand mining was in progress at Talangare rivulet, policemen from the coastal station rushed to the spot. Police personnel, Ranjith and Rathishchandran, who were there, were attacked by a gang of sand miners, who forcibly dragged these two policemen by boat and pushed them into the rivulet. When the police swam across the rivulet and reached the banks, they were attacked. Additional police force which rushed to the spot after being alerted, rescued the duo.

In connection with this incident, a case has been registered against 20 persons.
