Mangaluru, Jul 23: The senior vice president of nursing service Columbia Asia Hospitals, India, Col Binu Sharma inaugurated the national conference on 'Advcanced Clinical Nursing Roles', in the Decennial Memorial Hall of Father Muller Medical College on Saturday July 23.

Speaking on the occasion Binu said, "Clinical skills are acquired through service while knowledge is attained by education. When both combine together the result is better service to society."

"India is 56 years behind in announcing the national nursing policy whereas US announced it in 1960 and UK in 1980. India has announced it only in 2016." she added.

Speaking on the occasion the administrator of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, Fr Richard Coelho said, "Our education system has not been able to produce job-ready graduates in India. Capabilities and skills are the order of the day. But 90 percent of the graduates or post-graduates or even the Phd holders lack job skills."

Thank you for your comments, Sir. Its the first National Conference organised by the Alumni Association of Father Muller College of Nursing. Yes, the topic is the trend in today's nursing practice. Its been in practice in the West since 1960s but in India, its was initiated very recently as in 2016. Much needs to be done and we need to march ahead in our practice in serving humanity.
