Puttur, Jul 29: Angered by the action of the higher officials of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation's (KSRTC) city unit in not allowing trainee drivers and conductors who had participated in strike to report for duties on Thursday July 28, regular KSRTC employees held protest inside the unit.

The management had asked trainee drivers and conductors to work on the days the unions had given call for strike. But because of the fact that other employees were on strike, the trainee employees too had stayed away from office. After the unions withdrew strike on Wedneday, buses began moving on Thursday morning. It was then noticed that trainee employees were not allotted duty that day. The other drivers and conductors stuck to their stand that they will not work unless the trainee workers are allowed to do their duty.

Sensing that the 74 trainee staff were kept away from duties as a measure of disciplinary action, other employees firmly stood in their support. Deputy traffic officer, Venkatesh,who arrived at the venue, asked the agitating employees to resume work.

The employees firmly said that they will resume duty only after the trainees are given work. Later, he assured them that the trainee drivers and conductors will be given duty on Friday, after which the other employees began to work.
