Bengaluru, Aug 2: It is reliably learnt that the criminal investigation department (CID) was planning to conclude its investigation into the question paper leakage scandal, but the government has directed it to delve deep further in the investigation by reviewing the role of the friends circle of kingpin of the scandal, Shivakumaraiah.

With this fresh initiative of the government, several people including political leaders, who are close to Shivakumaraiah in his reality and other businesses, are facing the prospects of hogging the limelight and comingunder the scanner of the agency.

The CID, which had partially completed the investigation, had prepared to file charge sheets against 18 accused in the case including Shivakumaraiah. The decision to continue with the investigation, which was taken at the highest level, was so sudden that even the investigating officers were taken by surprise, it is said.

Arrest of former Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike corporator and BJP leader, Gangabhyraiah and revealing the proximity between Shivakumaraiah and former minister, Renukacharya, came out into the open because of this extended investigation, sources add.

Although Gangabhyraiah's name had figured in the early part of the investigation, senior officers had not taken a firm decision about his arrest. On Thursday last, the senior officials finally gave their nod for his arrest, sources added.
