Bengaluru, Aug 3: A man, who suspected character of his wife, tried to kill her with a knife. As his mother-in-law tried to save her daughter's life, the man killed her instead. He fled from the scene, after realizing the gravity of his action in a flash.

Malligamma alias Manjula (47) from Sunkadakatte Kabbahalla was murdered in the incident. Her son-in-law, Nagaraj Nayaka, happens to be the murder-accused. On the basis of complaint filed by Nagaraj's wife, Sumalata, Kamakshipalya police have registered a case.

Nagaraj happens to be employed in a private concern. He had married Sumalata from Basaveshwaranagar five years back. The couple, which lives in Sunkadakatte, has a 30-month-old son. It is gathered that the couple fought often as Nagaraj suspected his wife's character. Sumalata had told about this issue to her mother living at Manjunathanagar here.

When his mother-in-law visited his home on Tuesday morning, Nagaraj again raked up the issue. Manjula advised him not to suspect her daughter's character. Nagaraj, in a fit of anger, tried to stab his wife with a knife. When Manjula tried to block him, he stabbed her stomach with the knife. Nagaraj then locked the house and escaped.

The neighbours, who heard loud wails from inside the house, broke open the door and saw Manjula writhing in a pool of blood. They took her to a nearby hospital but she had died by then, policemen of Kamakshipalya station, who are now searching for Nagaraj, said.
