Bengaluru, Aug 7: The meteorological department has said that as per the current assessment, shortage of rainfall in the state will be made good with better rainfall in the coming two months of rainy season. "Monsoon rains in August and September will be better than predicted. There is a chance that monsoon will extend till October. Shortfall in rainfall during June and July will be made good during the next two months, and there is hope of the ponds, water sources, and reservoirs in Kaveri river basin getting filled to the brim," it said.

Elaborating on the current scenario, a scientist in Karnataka Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre said that the state had received 491 mm rain from June 1 to August 6 as against the normal rainfall of 522 mm, resulting in six percent shortfall. Still, this is being treated as average rainfall. As there are two months to go before the monsoon season ends, it would be wrong to say now that monsoon has failed," he added.

Scientist of meteorological department said that 45 percent of water sources are yet to be filled but there is hope that they will be full on account increased rainfall in coming days. Although the water level in reservoirs now is less than last year, there is expectation for improvement in situation in the remaining two months," he elaborated.
