Dharwad, Aug 7: Head of the investigating team formed to look into police atrocities during the Anti-Mahadayi river disputes tribunal's verdict, Kamal Pant, visited Navalgund, Yamanur and Arekurahatti which suffered the most out of police atrocities unleashed on villagers. He initiated the investigation on Saturday August 6 by visiting the affected people.

Pant visited 30 families in Yamanur and four to five houses in Arekurhatti, and collected first hand information about the incidents from the people injured in the caning. He also visited the municipality building at Navalgund which was torched, bus stand, block education office, PWD department, mini Vidhan Soudha, BSNL office and JMFC court where he collected information from officials. But during his visit in some government offices, senior officials were not available.

Speaking to press persons at Yamanur, Pant said that he had come there for preliminary investigation. "Within two to three days, I will come back with full team, visit all the houses, and individually collect information from the injured," he assured. He said he had collected information by visiting some houses in the company of village leaders and that he had heard stories from women and saw broken doors in certain cases.
