Udupi: Devaraj Urs birth anniversary observed in city

Udupi, Aug 9: Addressing a gathering at the Board High School, the City Municipal Council president, Meenakshi Madav Bannanje said, "Let everyone make use of the reforms and plans implemented by the late social reformer and former chief minister, Devaraj Urs."








She spoke after inaugurating the Devaraj Urs Ratha Yatra that was held on Monday August 8 to mark his birth anniversary and his achievements.

She also added, "He has introduced welfare programmes for various classes of society and eliminated many social evils and systems which were practiced in society. Thus, all people including students and unemployees should make use of these schemes and programmes.

The Ratha Yatra commenced from Board High School campus, near the city's service bus stand.

A colourful procession also consisting of tableaux was carried out in the city, emphasizing Devaraj's achievements and reforms.

The programme was organized by the city's district authority in association with backward classes' welfare committee.

DC T Venkatesh, zilla panchayat CEO Priyanka Mary Francis, ASP Vishnuvardhan, CMC vice president Sandhya Thilakraj, taluk panchayat vice president Rajendra and others were present on the occasion.

The Ratha Yatra which was held in various districts of Karnataka will come together on August 20 in Bengaluru, where celebrations for Devaraj Urs' birth anniversary will take place.
