Kundapur, Aug 17: A pedestrian was killed in a car accident that took place at Kota on Tuesday, August 16. The car driver who fled from the place was caught by people later at Koteshwar.

Gopala (38) from Halavalli near Koteshwar is the person deceased.

Gopala worked for a canteen in Kota. He was returning home at night after his work was over. When he was crossing the road, a Maruti Swift Car, which was moving towards Kundapur from Udupi, knocked him down. Gopala died on the spot due to serious injuries.

Though Gopala could be seen struggling for life, the car driver did not stop, but fled from the spot. But some people chased the car and managed to stop it and then the car driver was handed over to police. Police also impounded the car. Front side of the car has been badly damaged.

It is indeed a very sad news , sincere condolences ... it is dangerous to walk on the highway in the nights.... we must educate people to wear white or any other light coloured shirt in the night... even better if they carry a torch with them that will alert the motorist....

People need to be careful while crossing roads too because vehicles will be speed at highways and can't apply hard brakes too. People never use zebra crossing.

Good work by local people. but at the same time the deceased have crossed the road with out seeing both the side or on high way if a person crosses all of a sudden nothing can be done by the driver this is most common problem recent days and always the driver will be blamed.
Driver running from spot is wrong he shud tried to help him but if driver tries to help him next moment he will be thrashed by the people without understanding the reality .
