Bengaluru, Aug 17: Abu Dhabi based Dr B R Shetty of NMC Group of Companies has decided to invest Rs. 450 crore for developing the world famous Jog Falls, where river Sharavathi takes a plunge from a height of 810 feet, into an all-season tourist spot.

A State Cabinet meeting, presided by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on Wednesday approved a detailed project report of the company and asked Dr Shetty to go ahead with the project.

He, however, has to obtain all clearances, including environment, from various departments.

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the State Government for taking up the venture at the Travel Mart of Pacific Asia Travel Association in Bengaluru, 2015.

The State Government had called expression of interest and only two firms showed interest.

Of the two firms, which had evinced interest, one had backed out.

But B R Shetty showed the interest as he wanted to contribute to the State, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra told presspersons after the meeting here on Wednesday.

The project report was planned to ensure flow of water along the falls round-the-year by adopting water re-cycling technology.

The four distinct cascades - named Raja, Roarer, Rocket and Rani — take a gigantic plunge from a dizzying height, making them one of the best known geographical features in the country.

The Jog Management Authority (JMA) would manage the Falls and fix the fee for tourists, the minister explained.

First time hearing about 'Water re-cycling technology' to keep water falling 365 days! Science does not explain this technology. The whole project lacks transparency. What is the connection between the Chief Minister visiting Dubai recently, and now the go-ahead being given to this project?

Jog falls is tourist destination and hence the area surrounding it need to be developed to enhance the amenities as well increase job opportunities. Dr. Shetty, being a Kannadiga and having adequate resources is a suitable person to do it.

What is lacking is the detailed information about the project. It should be the govt who is doing the initial studies and getting all the approvals. Only after studying the environmental impact and suitability, and other long term benefits, Govt should prepare a project report using third party consultancy. This report should be published for public opinion and any grievances should be sorted and all land purchases should be done by the authority at market rate and also the money should be paid in advance the land owners should be given enough time to find alternative options. Govt should invite private investment proposal based on this project report and no changes should be made to it. This will reduce the risk for private entrepreneurs and also eliminate delay and diversion.

For any business, more the risk, better the profit margin. Govt should take this initial risk and increase the profit from the project for the general public. If private players are invited only after a solid project report with all permissions and land and other resources in place, more entrepreneurs will come ahead and Govt can extract better value from them.

Jog falls is a natural phenomenon and hence a public resource. It should be used maximum to benefit the public without major drain to the ecology.

Project should be developed along similar lines as Niagara falls . Avoid recycling and putting any artificial process into the system .If you want a 365 day waterfalls like Jog you can create it anywhere where you have mountains..

Good job Dr Shetty. Hats off to you. But please don't give those money to Govt officials to built this project, Take your own initiative by allocating Engineers and workers to make this successive project of Karnataka otherwise 100 Cores will be used for this project and rest 350Crores to Politicians, Govt contractors, engineers pocket.

Fantastic job Dr. Shetty. You have paved another corridor of opportunity for the world towards the scenic beauty of India. The people of Karnataka will remain grateful to you.

Development of Jog Falls must be having its own benefits, and the amount budgeted to the tune of 450 crores must be having its own benefits for the world of Tourism. Millions of tourists to Jog Falls will know the improved facilities and will remember you and your creativity.

We have heard so much about Jog Falls and now that another 450 crores being allocated we are tempted to make a trip soon.

Thank you once again and God bless.

    Acchu,
Based on a figure of 1 million (10,00,000 lakhs) visitors and if they charge some 100 rupees per head as entry fee, Still they can make only 10 crores per year. Compared with their investment of 450 crores, I think this is a small amount. At least tax payers share will be saved to maintain this site. God bless you Mr. Shetty. Like you others also let them come forward and develop sites like this. In few years we can see beautiful Karnataka.

Why not...Let tourists pay small fee...!! In return they get well organized tourist spot and maintained! Tourists may get to use clean toilets after driving few hours!! I'm wondering whether disagree critics willing to pay 450 CR for free or the facilities I mentioned for free??????
We want everything for free and use roadside for relief...and through garbage at our will!! It may take another few decades to educate majority anticipating everything for free while cheating on tax!!
I guess at the moment there is no fall(water) in Jog after January!! This investment may make it year round and up the water table!
