Udupi: Bhaskar murder- CID team arrives in Manipal, takes over case

Daijiworld Media Network-Udupi (UM)

Udupi, Aug 18: Personnel from the state agency, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), arrived in Manipal on Thursday, August 18 and took over the Bhaskar Shetty murder case from Udupi district police at Manipal police station.

The team headed by Dr D C Rajappa will henceforth carry on the investigation relating to the murder of Bhaskar Shetty. The sensational case was hitherto investigated by Udupi district police headed by ASP Dr Sumana. Before that circle inspector Girish was in-charge of investigations who was relieved after allegations of giving preferential treatment to the accused surfaced. Now he has been transferred from Manipal police station and is facing departmental enquiry.

District in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj had urged the State government to order a CID probe. Accordingly home minister Dr G Parameshwara, on August 16, had ordered the CID probe.

Rajeshwari, her son Navaneet, self proclaimed astrologer Niranjan Bhat, his father Srinivas Bhat and driver Raghavendra are the arrested accused so far in relation to the murder.

Athithi Bar and Restaurant

Meanwhile, Excise Department closed Athithi Bar and Restaurant owned by murdered Bhaskar Shetty and his wife Rajeshwari, the accused in the case. Since one of the owners is dead, the excise department has the right to suspend the licence as per law as no legal formalities have been taken up by legal heirs of Bhaskar Shetty, sources in Excise Department said.

Athithi Bar and Restaurant is housed at Hotel Durga International owned by Bhaskar Shetty.

Court order for DNA test on August 24

Police had applied to the court for the permission to subject Bhaskar Shetty’s mother Gulabi Shetty and brother for DNA test. The case was scheduled to be heard today August 18, and an order from the court was expected to direct the police to collect the blood samples required for the test.

The case relating to the DNA test order now stands postponed to August 24.

Dr Rajappa, give the Aeroplane treatment to all 3 accused & please find out the truth, because the body was not burnt. Bunts Association met neighbours of Niranjan bhat today and neighbours of Niranjan told no such incidents had come to their notice that they heard no sounds or smells of burning of the body . So one can clearly notice that the body may be the body of Shetty taken to somewhere else and some other persons are involved in it.

No body, no case. What magic CID can do other than shake the accused a bit.

There is no doubt that Dr. Rayappa will try his best to gather evidence. But, his task has been made very difficult if not impossible by CI girish. This is how our police dept works.I feel pity on Dr. Rayappa.
Many IOs, many witnesses who are forced to sign statements, lengthy chargsheet and ultimately acquittal

May be rajeshwari will give Niranjan Bhat a mercedez after acquittal for his role in the crime. As an astrologer i feel his career has come to an end.

Its quoted “ Excise Department closed Athithi Bar and Restaurant owned by murdered Bhaskar Shetty and his wife Rajeshwari, the accused in the case. Since one of the owners is dead, the excise department has the right to suspend the licence as per law”

That means Excise Department has already confirmed the death of Bhaskar Shetty !!!!. Then what evidence the Police are searching for since last 2-3 weeks ???

    Dr D C Rajappa ,

Welcome to Udupi...hope you will be able to prove the murder of Bhaskar Shetty and get a conviction...

This is not easy as you think...anyway good luck..

While filing charge sheet read it couple of times and show it to some good lawyers from prosecution departmental ...2-3 errors in the Charge sheet is enough for a good defense lawyer to get the acquittal...and in this case you will have best defense lawyer to cross examine you...
