Mangaluru: CM should focus on skill-based training instead of bhagyas: Mohandas Pai

Mangaluru, Aug 19: “The Chief Minister must train youths of state instead of giving bhagyas to them so that they get superior employability skills compared to people of other states,” said corporate leader TV Mohandas Pai.

He was addressing the media persons in city after disbursing scholarships worth Rs 3.5 crores in the TV Ramana Pai hall.

“It was only after the IT policy implemented in the state in 1997 under the leadership of RV Deshapande, Bengaluru could become the second IT hub of the world next to the Silicon Valley.”

“Today with the direct employment of 15 lac people, it exports IT services worth Rs 3 lac crore annually in the state. We have to make a note that out of the 17 lac, hardly seven lac IT professionals are from Karnataka. Out of the rest Bengalis take the major portion with 1.5 lac professionals. It is the lack of skills in youth many Karnataka do not get jobs in IT sector.”

“Instead of various Bhagyas in the state, the chief minister must open training centres and enhance the skills of graduates so that they need not fly abroad or remain unemployed.”

“Even from Mangaluru, IT graduates are going to Bengaluru and then to the United States. Here the Economic Zone set-up lacks basic infrastructure and lacks political push. I had approached the local people's representatives many months ago but nothing has happened so far. If this trend continues then Mangaluru will be an intellectual desert,” he said.

Speaking about the training given to the students at Vishwa Konkani Kendra along with the scholarship the chairman of VKSSF Ramdas Kamath said, “The students are trained at the Kendra so that they train the next batch of students. They are given training for 18,000 hours to improve their personality and enhance employability skills so that they are employable in any part of the world.”

The president of Akhila Bharatha Konkani Kharvi Mahajana Sabha KB Kharvi explained the difference the Vishwa Konkani Kendra has made in the lives of students and everyone in the community through various aids. “When TV Mohandas Pai approached us, we wanted our students like students trained by Vishwa Konkani Kendra and we didn't seek the scholarship. But due to their scholarships and encouragement this year, 32 students are perusing engineering which started from one student at the beginning.”

“We never received a single pie from the government but now a community centre with the expense of six crore is coming up at Trasi and the present government has given an aide of two crores in this regard,” he said.

Kudumbi Narayana Naik a representative of Kudumbi community said that they being the forest inhabitants have 24 students doing the engineering and a girl student studying the medicine and a centre of theirs is also in the verge of completion in Dupi taluk. All this is due to the efforts of Vishwa Konkani Kendra,” he said.

Adding to what two leaders said, TV Mohan Das Pai said, “The Kendra aims for the overall development of the two communities and this has been taken up as clear Konkani mandate. “I call upon the leaders of the Tulu speaking communities and other linguistic communities to develop the downtrodden in this model.”

MD of Rayan International Group of Institutions Grace Pinto, president of Vishwa Konkani Kendra Basti Vaman Shenoy, entrepreneur Pradeep G Pai, Jagannath Shenoy and others were present on the occasion.

Rs 1/kg rice, free cylinder, subsidy... Karnataka scamgress chor ministers knows well how to attract voters. They dont care about educated young people who have to leave mangalore as soon as they complete graduation looking for job. Mangalore could have been developed as second IT hub in Karnataka when Infosys entered here. BUT govt still in sleeping mode. They are just interested where they can make some profit to their bogus companies of relatives.

Freebies or Bhagyas" do not do any good for society. It promotes people not to work which is not a good thing. Provide employment opportunities, education, training or loan for self employment and make the people work. This helps society and people will know the value of money. People should stand on their own legs rather than dependent on freebies.

Yes Skill should be imparted to people. But what do we do when people are handicapped to attain the skill? its like asking the lame to compete a race. Poverty needs to be experienced in order to be understood. its all very well to sit in air-conditioned offices with all comforts of life and tell the world that Bhagyas are unwelcome. What it is like to have no food to eat? what it is like to have no basic housing to live. These IT companies who get land and other sanctions from the government should first learn to pay back to the government what they have taken. In fact there should have been more bhagyas had the government not given sops to it companies. Do not steal from the poor whatever little they are given but first take from the rich what they have amassed. Poor are not burden to this country but the rich who have disproportionate wealth. Mr Pai should take a tour in the by lanes before making a grand judgement on the highway.

Even in developed countries there is reservation, financial help towards marginalized in society. India because of casteism had created economic difficulty for the so called lower caste. ONce they have better education & better jobs-One can think of reducing/removing reservation/financial aid.India should develop its own industry instead of sending its skilled people abroad.Let the Americans/British come to work India.

Mr Pai's statement should not be seen from a political angle. It applies to Yeddy, Kumaraswamy or Siddu.
Biggest blessing to India in 21st century is IT and in that biggest looser is Karnataka. We boast of Bengaluru being IT hub but how many people from the state have got jobs? As a by product of IT and industrialization, real estate business developed but who developed? Only people from Andhra. I am not saying we should fight against them or hate them but learn from them. Do something strategical so that we could reap the benefits. in IT less than 10% are from our state where as the same no in Hyderbad or Chennai is 90%. Our government irrespective who is/was in power & people have failed to take note of this. We are too soft in this era of competition and ethnic nepotism. We should engage with Industries, see what skills are lacking here that they can completely ignore us. Encourage companies to hire people from good colleges outside BEngaluru in Karnataka etc

I would highly appreciate any govt that gives Udyoga Bhagya, even if thats for minorities of my state

Indian leaders have bankrupted the country with so many Bhagyas just to collect votes from poor as well as lazy people.

Yes Bhagyas, caste based reservations may be abolished, not only in Karnataka but whole of India. Economic based reservation would be natural justice.
    However Bhagya's are forgone issues!
Now, COW RAKSHAK'S and dalit attackers/killers urgently need training on humanity and morals. Thereafter skill based training to tide over unemployment!
But who will opt to employ rioters, street fighters and killers is a big question!

All the parties in India are the same. Religion, minority and mazdoori is only to get votes. Once they get into power, they all like "mil julke khaneka". After they complete more than half of years in power, whichever the party it might be, they resort to settling scores with people who do not think in their way. I think that India needs a major reform, but I don't know where it will come from as all at the top level are corrupt. Both the parties have some understanding in the case of recent murders in Udupi and Mangalore & religious people at the top level are involved. This means if it is matter of crores then one's life might be at risk.

With skills the poor can stand on his own feat...but with bhagya, he will look forward to next moonth bhagya .. and then go and vote the same party fearing that other party may stop m this bhagya . is it that diffucult to understand?

Now there are big houses and big plots all over Mangalore and Udupi, but there is no one to work. Men work in Gulf and there is hardly anyone back home in their houses. I had seen people from North Karnataka in many of the houses taking care of them and they are treated like guests. Also it is difficult to get people to work and their salary is too high. Only real estate fetches good money in India, but if we give our house on rent we do not get much rent. So normal trend is work in gulf and then live in Udupi-Mangalore.
