20 injured as cops lathi-charge ABVP activists; Parameshwar sees BJP's hand

Bengaluru, Aug 20 (DHNS): Around 20 students and ABVP workers were injured, some of them seriously, when the police resorted to lathi charge to disperse a group of protesters which attempted to picket the Amnesty International India (AII) office in Indiranagar 1st stage on Friday.

The ABVP-led protesters were demanding the arrest of those who had raised anti-India slogans at an event organised by AII?here on August 13. Six police personnel were also injured as they were manhandled by the protesters.

The injured students were rushed to CMH Hospital, C V Raman General hospital and other hospitals in Indiranagar. The doctors at CHM Hospital said that of the five students admitted there, one had sustained a gash on his head and was being treated. The others are out of danger, hospital sources said.

Around 11 am, around 150 students gathered near the AII office and demanded the immediate arrest of those who had raised anti-national slogans. They removed the barricades placed by the police and made their way near the office gate.

As they were preparing to burn an effigy of AII, the police requested them not to create trouble and asked them to disperse. As an argument broke out between the protesters and the police, some of the ABVP activists tried to climb the AII office gate to enter its premises.

To disperse them, the police resorted to lathi charge. While some students were injured after being hit by lathis, a few others suffered injuries as they tripped while running for cover.

“The protestors were carrying two bottles of petrol to burn the effigy. We asked them not to do that as it is a residential area. As they did not pay heed to our advice, we used force to disperse them. They could have caused huge damage if we had not acted,” said a senior police officer.

ABVP’s Bengaluru unit organising secretary Jaya Prakash said: “We were told by the police that the AII?office was closed. But we found a few persons on the top floor videographing the protest. Hence, we attempted to barge in.”

ABVP member Veena, who was injured, told DH: “Male police personnel attempted to control women protesters though women police were at the spot. ABVP?members Gavisiddaiah, Range Gowda and Manjunath Reddy sustained severe gashes on their heads and are undergoing treatment.”

The police detained ABVP workers who came to the hospital to enquire about the injured.?The ABVP will intensify the agitation till those who raised slogans against the Indian Army are arrested, she said.

The police detained 22 protesters and released them later. A case has been registered against the protesters at the Indiranagar police station. Security has been heightened at the AII?office, the police said.

Parameshwar sees BJP's hand

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Aug 20: State home minister, Dr G Parameshwar, has expressed the view that continuing protests by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) against raising of anti-national slogans and slogans deriding the army at a programme organized by Amnesty International in the city were backed by the designs of BJP.

Speaking to media persons here on Friday August 19, he pointed out that first information report has already been lodged against Amnesty International and that investigation has been undertaken. He dubbed the protests by ABVP as unwarranted.

"ABVP happens to be a wing of BJP. ABVP is not justified in getting involved with agitation over the issue. We will take action based on the report that will be submitted to the government after the conclusion of the inquiry," he clarified.

I wish they had controlled the goonda mob with more lathi charge.

Earlier in schools\colleges instructors used to punish the unruly students which made them change their ways and became better human beings and responsible human beings.

Now-a-days students cannot be touched as such all these goondaism is done by joining groups like ABVP backed by Political Party etc. They are students and instead of attending to their education, so many are involved in political goondagiri activities, as seen here. See the ferocity of the ABVP agitators. Not only that if Police had not lathi charged they would have committed arson too!!!
Can we call it a peaceful march? What people should do - accept such behaviour or condone it?
All this is done by absenting themselves from their colleges.

With JNU incidents where recording were doctored to put blame on a few students, here too it can not be ruled out similar tactics as the earlier incidents. Truth may come out once various recordings of the event are checked.....
AII will do better if they hold such politically volatile issues in the places where they happen and not invite outsiders here for such politically volatile discussions. And they say there is no restrictions who all can attend....!!! This is inviting trouble when various political parties are waiting for slightest reason to blame Government and organize unruly processions.

BJP should not mess with the young minds by misleading them. Innocent youth get dragged into unnecessary controversies used as gun cotton by the politicians. Even Mr Modi mislead the youth during his electoral rallies and today is unable to deliver the promises.

Students main job is to attend classes and study but not to be on road to stage protest of political interest.

They can protest if it's related to something related to descripencies in schools and universities but not to get into something which is of political nature.

When we used to study we never saw any students participating in any other protests and strikes apart from school or university related issues. But today unfortunately we see students being used as political tools and the poisonous political mindset is created by creating groups as student unions by naming ABVP etc.

What is the purpose of going to school or college? To study or to get into politics and create strikes and protest?

Absolute Nonsense Atmosphere is being created in Indian Universities and colleges.

Ronald, don't assume that parents of these students are innocents because sour friuts comes from bad tree only. Assume that, if the boys are rouges not obeying parents then what about the girls? Are they also rouges? Here girls are leading and all in this "DHAKKA-DHUKKI" how many people took the advantage on them even their own ABVP members? So their parents also very much involved in such "ANTI-PEACE" activities. That is the strategy of "FEKUS & DAKUS" in the opposition ruled states, first shout anti-India slogans by themselves then lodge a complaint and as per their demand a particular person is not arrested then go on rampage. Since May 2014, this DRAMA Written, Directed and Produce by Feku & DAKU by the blessings from NAG-POOR. But Bangalore Police did very NOBLE job, Salute to Bangalore Police!!!!.

instead of protesting, ABVP should convey the message about amnesty Bangalore incident to our military jawans. if our military handle the terrorist effectively then some people feel bad. where was the amnesty when Kashmiri pandits have been pushed out from the valley? why they have not raised the voice when these pandits have been attacked in the valley? still they are living in tents & nobody worried about them. why double standard? when farmers protested on mahadayi issue our police done the lathi charge & very next day all the protestors including innocent people have been arrested without any enquiry. then our govt was not conducted any enquiry before arresting. but here they says that after completion of investigation culprits will be arrested. even after 5 days the investigation is not completed eventhough video clippings are available. how long votebank politics will remains in this country. this kind of attitude will encourage the terrorists & they will show their ability.
