Amnesty has not indulged in anti-national activities: Parameshwar

Bengaluru, Aug 20 (PTI): Amnesty International India has never involved itself in any kind of anti-national activities, state Home Minister G Parameshwar said today, even as it faced sedition charges over an event held by it here in which anti-India and anti-Army slogans were allegedly raised.

"Amnesty International is not new to Bengaluru; this organisation has been functioning here for a long time. I don't know nor I have heard in the past about it (Amnesty) or anyone from it involving in any anti-national activities," he said.

"They (Amnesty) had organised a programme about Army's excesses in Kashmir. They had called a few families (from Kashmir) to console them and give them some sort of mental support, in which certain incidents took place about which an FIR has been registered," he said.

Amnesty International had on Saturday last organised the event as part of a campaign to seek justice for "victims of human rights violations" in Jammu and

Kashmir, which took an ugly turn with heated exchanges and alleged raising of pro-Kashmir 'Independence' and anti-Army slogans.

ABVP activists had submitted a CD containing video recording of the event after filing a complaint with police, who have registered an FIR against Amnesty International, including on sedition charge.

IPC sections-- 142 (being member of an unlawful assembly), 143 (whoever is a member of an unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 124A (sedition), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) have been invoked against Amnesty.

Criticising BJP and ABVP for holding protests, Parameshwar said now that an FIR had been registered, ABVP were holding protests on the streets.

"What is your culture? What are you trying to do? What kind of society are you trying to build?"
"They (protesters) are students, they are not aware of anything, those who had gone for classes are being brought forcefully (to protest), this is BJP's culture," he added.

ABVP activists have been staging protests, demanding the arrest of those who allegedly raised anti-India and anti-Army slogans at the event organised by Amnesty International India.

During one such protest in front of Amnesty International India office here yesterday, police resorted to a mild lathi charge during which a few students were injured.

ABVP today intensified its agitation by launching a day-night protest here.

Several state BJP leaders and party's women's wing also staged a protest here condemning police action against ABVP activists and demanding arrest of those involved in alleged anti-Army sloganeering.

For these Congress Govt, anything anti-national is no worries. No issues. They are ok to join with terrorists, ok to go to Pakistan, praise them and comment on our country... allow all anti-national activities in universities or institutions... everything is ok and nothing is anti-national for them. Hello boss, stop it right away, or else with in no time this problem will become a major issue risking the state as well as our country. Stop them. What' the hell these institutions getting in to. they are supposed to focus on student's education, placement and all. who the hell permitted them to host such a event and involve students here. Ban the university and arrest all who involved. You do it in one institution, automatically next few which are just blooming will die. please. We have enough problems to handle, let's not create new issues. Unfortunately the idea person or authority who need to take such action himself is commenting a stupid and irresponsible statement like this. shame on you.

    Anirudh P,

In my opinion you have to restrain using of the word - '...those who love Pakistan'..., coz..., our honorable PM too visited Pakistan on 2015 X-Mas day on a love thy neighbor foreign policy.

While i respect your views.., it is not my intention to override and/or over rule your views..., I only consider you as more knowledgeable/worthy/intelligent & presume that you take into account my above point of view b4 commenting aptly.

However, my response to your last question & i quote "Why these dongies love Pakistan so much ?" is
b'coz - all are now a days smart in ULLU BANAAWING.., Aaj kal sirf FEKU chal raha hai na..,

    Jai Ho.., Jai Hind..,

Yes they are not like SANGHIS !!

They are the one who never organised a meeting to console the victims of Pakistan sponsored terrorist activities but they are meeting to console so called victims of army excesses !!!

They are the one who never questioned pakistan when terrorists exported by it killed our people without mercy. But they dare to question the verdict of Hon Supreme Court to hang those Pakistani terrorists.

They are truly not like SANGHIS but they very much resemble DONGIES.

Everybody knows of it. It is responsibility of organisers to foresee people who are associating with them.
When people protested in India for rohingyas..are destroyed national properties and amar jyoti statutes.
Even they snatched gun from women police officer and misbehaved badly.
Both occassions congress is in power.
