Udupi: Don't resort to violence in the name of cow protection: Pejawar Sri

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (HB)

Udupi, Aug 20: Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Paryaya Pejawar Math on Saturday August 20 condemned the murder of local BJP leader Praveen Poojary at the hands of right-wing cow vigilantes, and stressed that though efforts to protect cows should continue, no one should resort to violence. He also felt that backward communities and Dalits were being attacked in the name of protection of cows.

Speaking to reporters here, Pejawar Swamiji said, "Atrocities against innocents from backward communities and Dalits in the name of cow protection were seen in Gujarat and other states, but now it has happened in Udupi too. The incident has brought shame to the entire nation.

"This incident has lent a blow to Hindu dharma. Activities directed towards any cause, including protection of cows, should be carried out in a non-violent manner. No matter what, it has to be peaceful. Such incidents incite anger among people, and instead of garnering their support, they hinder the cause of cow protection.

"Innocents should never be attacked. Even if someone does wrong, no one should take law into one's hands. There are lawful ways to deal with wrongdoing," he said.

"I am pained by this incident. They have killed Praveen Poojary without knowing facts. Even if the cause is protection of cows, nobody should be attacked, that too to such an extreme.

"I fully support the cause of protecting cows. But it should be done in a non-violent way. Whether the person is Hindu or from a minority community, everyone has equal right to life," he said.

"Cattle trafficking has been going on from long, and the government should have taken appropriate steps to curb it. So, even the government is responsible to some extent. But even now, if the government takes stern action in this matter, such incidents can be prevented in future," he opined.

While i respect & submit to parama poojya swamiji's view - Without prejudice..., in my view it would have been much better had this preaching/alert/words of wisdom came at a time when our fellow Hindustani Shri Aklaque got lynched for the same reasons.

This is what exactly happen when Hinduism is leased to political party for protection & survival.

Beef is a universal food. Whole world consumes it. It doesn't mean only COW meat. There is Buffalo, Oxen etc., India is leading in Beef export. They say it's buffalo meat. Let them make available Buffalo meat in the market, then you Cow mathaji will be safe.
    All double standards:-
You don't want fellow Indians to consume Cow beef. It's about sentiments
You will not allow them to consume buffalo meat, cause you want to export it all for good money.
You will skin the dead cow and use its leather for you shoes, belt and wallet.
Still you will not take care of at least one GauMatha in your house.
You want Goshalas to take care of them, but, there your caretakers will not feed them, they will let them die.
We have GauMatha all over the world. Indians and Hindus also spread around the world. But, there seeing GauMatha been killed for food, our so called Cow worshippers would not utter a word.
All the gimmick started after the formation of Sangh parivar. Why? Only for votes and notes.

    Peddu,

Its not whether one lives on Beef alone or if s/he can't live without it. Its about dictating others' food habits.

Those very people who dictate not to eat Beef, some day may say don't eat chicken, mutton and fish. They will not give up eating vegetables because it hurts the plants !

Today you non-beef-eaters are with them, tomorrow you will be in the very spot where beef-eaters today are !

Many have perished in the name of Cow protection. Though it's late, we respect his views. But, a million dollar question is, when they don't listen to Modiji would they listen to Swamiji?

Cow Protection is only a means to usurp the hegemony by upper caste in India. They use, all sorts of false promises to get the support of lower caste, as it is done in Gujarat during 2002 Godhra riots.

Things have gone out of hand. They should have been curtailed from the beginning. Even the PM called for similar restraint.

Now, they will not hear to even Pejavar Sri Swamiji.

One who taste money in a wrong way, will never listens to the speeches as it will curtail their interest.

Best solution is to make cow slaughter and transporting cows legal. All those earning money at the back door, will automatically vanish including supplier and butcher.

Finally something positive will take place as Seer correctly elaborated the event which took place in recent times in the name of cow in UNDIVIDED DISTRICT OF UDUPI/DK.This statement of Seer will have far reaching effect in the entire Nation.Violence should be condemned and dealt seriously by govt agencies and community leaders.Though the statement bit late,it has the weight and Particularly Sanghis could adhere something from it.
