Mangaluru, Aug 23: After she was transferred from Puttur as municipal commissioner of Ullal municipality, Rekha J Shetty was expected to take charge on Monday August 22. However, she got admitted into the government hospital at Puttur for low blood pressure. There are rumours which say that she took ill because of pressure brought on her by some powerful officials.

Puttur municipal commissioner, Rekha J Shetty, had been transferred to Ullal municipality, while Roopa T Shetty, municipal commissioner, Ullal, was transferred to Puttur. After the transfer order reached Rekha Shetty on Friday, she had prepared to approach the district deputy commissioner for permission to report at Ullal municipality on Monday.

Rekha had taken part in a meeting held in the office of the deputy commissioner on Saturday before returning to her home at Salethur. She had planned to go to the office of the deputy commissioner on Monday, get relieving letter from there, and go to Ullal. On Sunday evening, she suffered from low blood pressure and fell unconscious. Her family members then rushed her to the government hospital at Puttur.

There were rumours that Rakha came under mental pressure after an officer from the district urban development cell made some allegations and posed threat to her, which in turn caused mental strain in her. It is also said that a local minister is trying to bring a person of his choice to Ullal and that pressure is being applied through officials to achieve this objective.

MLA, Shakuntala T Shetty, municipal councillors, and many others visited her in the hospital. Dr Vijay Kumar who checked her health that Rekha is recovering after suffering from low blood pressure.

Reacting to the rumours, MLA, Shakuntala Shetty, concurred that transfer of government officials is common, and settling scores or nurturing enmity are wrong. She said that she is only aware that Rekha has been transferred, but revealed that her mother claims that an officer had posed threat to her, duly warning her that she would not be allowed to report at Ullal. She felt that the officer would have come under strain because of this development.

At the same time, Roopa T Shetty, who was transferred form Ullal, reported for duty at Puttur Monday.
