Mangaluru, Aug 24: H L Dattu, chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) visited Mangalore district prison for inspection here on Wednesday, August 24.

After the inspection of district prison, HL Dattu did not speak to media about his visit.

It is gathered that after his visit to the Kudroli Gokarnatheshwara Temple, HL Dattu visited district prison for inspection and had a meeting with jail committee members and jail officials.

Speaking to media persons, deputy commissioner (DC) KG Jagadish said, “After his visit, NHRC chairman gave few suggestions and instructions to district prison committee and jail superintendent. We will implement his suggestions.”

“About space problem in the district prison, the chairman asked the authorities to speed up the construction of new jail which is set to come up in outskirts of city.” DC added.

On the status of new jail construction at Konaje, DC said, “The plan has been submitted to the chief architect who will prepare the blueprint of the building. I have already directed the PDW executive engineer for follow ups.”

Police commissioner Chandrashekar, Jail superintendent V Krishnamurthy, MCC commissioner Nazeer and others were present.
