Bengaluru: Kirloskar MD's 19-year-old son kidnapped, back home

Bengaluru, Aug 25 (DHNS): The 19-year-old son of Vinayak Bapat, the managing director of Kirloskar Electric company, was abducted from Yelahanka on Tuesday evening.

However, sensing that the police were on their trail, the two abductors abandoned the boy near Jalahalli on Wednesday morning and fled.

The victim, Eshan Bapat, is a second year student in the Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Yelahanka, and resides in Malleswaram.

According to the police, around 5.30 pm on Tuesday, Eshan was returning home from college in a BMTC bus as he had given his bike for servicing. He got down near Yelahanka and was having a snack at a nearby hotel when two people came in a car and bundled him inside and fled. Around 8 pm, the abductors called Eshan’s mother from his mobile phone and told her that her son had been kidnapped. The abductors also warned her against informing the police and said they would call again on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Eshan’s family members and friends were informed about the kidnap. They tried calling his mobile phone, but it was switched off. They informed a few senior police officers, who alerted DCP (North-East) P S Harsha.

Mobile phone traced to Whitefield

A team of policemen tracking Eshan’s mobile phone traced it to Whitefield. But when they reached the spot, the signal went off. “They might have switched off the phone or removed the SIM card,” an officer said.
