Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP/RJP)

Udupi, Aug 25: The team of CID senior officers, which had come here to investigate the murder of Bhaskar Shetty, continued to stay put in the city on Wednesday August 24.

After holding discussions with the district superintendent of police, K T Balakrishna, additional director general of police of CID, Pratap Reddy, told media persons that nearly ten officers from his department have camped in the city, and investigation has been undertaken with added intensity from all the angles. "We cannot say anything at this juncture about inept handling of the case by local police. We have been closely monitoring every step and action in the case," he revealed.

CID director general of police, H C Kishore Chandra, deputy inspector general, Sonia Narang, superintendent of police, Dr D C Rajappa, and other members of CID team were present.

Lawyers to represent accused

Arun Shetty and Arun Bangera from Mangaluru will represent Rajeshwari and Navaneet the mother-son duo who are the main accused in the case. Lawyer Vikram Hegde also from Mangaluru will represent Srinivasa Bhat and Raghavendra who have been charged with destroying evidence. This was revealed when the accused appeared in court on Wednesday. Niranjan Bhat is yet to avail the services of a lawyer. If he fails to appoint a lawyer or if nobody applies to represent him, the court can appoint a lawyer to represent him, in case he cannot afford one.

Accused handcuffed, Mother son converse

All the accused except Rajeshwari were handcuffed on Wednesday unlike before, when they were produced in court. At the same time Rajeshwari and her son Navaneet were allowed to speak to each other. Rajeshwari, who was taken from Mangaluru prison, was produced in court later while the other four accused were already produced and were waiting for transport to take them to Hiriadka jail. As Navaneet’s lawyers had pleaded the court to allow the mother and son to interact, the court allowed the request. Rajeshwari spoke to her son and later to her lawyers, police and prosecutor.

I am reading all sorts of comments. Based on my observation, I can only say that Rajeshwari appears to be confident and she is very queit and also appears to be balanced. Frankly I like the way she has carried herself under these circumstances. Her looks does not indicate the criminality but look can be deceptive. The outcome of the investigation should be very interesting. BTW there was no need for the Bunt Sangh to get involved in this case. What have they done. They should have kept equi distance with both the parties. Both are bunts.Let the law take its own course.

    Dear Dinesh,

As this case progressing day by day less hopes left to get justice to Bhaskar Shetty. Even keep a bottle of poison she won't drink. B'coz she is dreaming property of almost 300 crore rupees.

What a waste of public resources. Elsewhere in the world 2 or 3 experienced detectives handle even the most intricate of crimes.
