Mangaluru, Aug 25: The protest against actress turned politician Ramya continued even at night here on Thursday, August 25.
Some protestors threw stones, tomatoes and chappals towards the stage where Ramya was sitting. She was attending the cultural function arranged by Kadri Cricketers Club in city as part of Krishna Janmashtami celebrations. The annual event is attended by thousands of people which include invited celebrities and politicians.
Police literally had to take over the stage for sometime during the time stones, tomatoes and chappals were thrown. Ramya had to leave the venue after her speech as planned. Police escorted her when she left. But rest of the programme went on well as scheduled without any further hurdles.
Previously the protestors had thrown eggs at Ramya’s car in the evening today at Kenjaru near airport when she arrived in city. Some people were detained then at the airport as well as at Kenjaru.
These protests were held condemning the statement made by Ramya where she praised the hospitality of Pakistani people. In addition to that, there are some rumours that she called Mangaluru hell while speaking to a TV channel. But she has denied such remarks.
Ramya has refused to apologise for her remarks on Pakistani people.

I am sorry to say that it seemed total failure of the Police. They were only bystanders.If not such things would not have happened. The Home Minister should look into this issue.Whatever may be the issue, you cannot show disrespect to a lady. would these hooligans have done the same to their mother / sisters / wife / daughters ?Assuming the CM or the Home Minister had come along with Ramya would the Police have acted or not ? I certainly blame the Police Dept for what happened in Mangalore regarding Ramya.I can also see a total desperation on part of the BJP and its affiliates.

I have visited Pakistan on a project for 2 weeks. Karachi is dominated by pakistanis of Indian origin (ancestors left during or after partition, from guj, hyderabad, up , bihar etc. they are quite rational and progress minded. They are called Mohajirs and led by MQM. MQM is being targetted by extremists and everyday there used to be 1 or 2 mohajirs being killed by extremists. they are telling that their country has got hijacked by terrorism and Pakistani people are also one of the biggest victims of home grown religious extremism.

No one threw stone at Ramya. Protesters threw eggs and slightly rotten Tomatoes. Ramya is a pretty girl. Protesters are in no way interested in causing physical injury to her.She wanted some publicity. Otherwise no one will notice her.
If she has said something good about the hospitality of the Pakistani people, what is wrong with that? Yes, as a country we certainly have differences with Pakistan and personally I too do not like that country. Having said that, there are so many nice Pakistanis and they are as good as any one from India. When I was working abroad, I had a Pakistani friend who always used to go out of his way to help anyone irrespective of which country he was from. He is such a lovely man, better than some of our own countrymen. Just because he is from Pakistan, we Indians never used to hate him. He was one among us. We never used to discriminate on the basis of religion, caste or country. The people who are protesting against this lady need to introspect and come out of the hole they are stuck in. I would have been happy if these people had reserved their protests against Sadananda Gowda and Veerappa Moily for having initiated the Yettinahole project. Where do these people hide when their presence is required for protests against the anti-people projects? Yettinahole is anti-Dakshina Kannada and against all of us. Protest against that and do not waste your time and energy against such silly matters. It clearly shows that they have been hired by some political party for political gains.
If a neutral person like you or me had made such statement about Pakistan or its people it is not a big issue and not wrong also. But some people like Ramya who is in active politics or any other politicians should be careful while making statement about countries like Pakistan and China (both these countries have waged war against India directly and now indirectly due to which India and Indians especially our soldiers and their families who have lost their life and suffered injuries). Any such statement should be coupled with good intention to maintain good harmony. But here Ramya has made such nonsense statement only to counter and insult our defense minister just because he is not from Congress party. 2 major wars between India and Pakistan happened when Congress was in power, during which congress ministers made so many statements against Pakistan but opposite parties never praised parties just to counter the statements made by the ministers that time. Ramya's statement under the current situation is wrong as Pakistan is unnecessarily giving statement against India.

Well, I left Mangalore and South Kanara for the United States 40 years ago. Mangalore was so peaceful and the citizens were so tolerant. It is sad and pitiable to see and read as to what is going on in Mangalore and in India. I have been also telling my US friends about the high rate of education and literacy in my home District.It is very sad that people in my home District have been tutored to become intolerant and wish to gain cheap local popularity while their masters are sitting elsewhere and watching the fun. You were never taught to throw eggs , break furniture etc in your 10 years of schooling and that too against a lady who should be considered your mother or sister and adorned with utmost respect.May God bless the people of South Kanara and India.
