Bengaluru: CS Arvind Jadhav facing breach of privilege motion

Bengaluru, Sep 3: It has come to light that beleaguered chief secretary (CS) of the government, Arvind Jadhav, who is struggling to clear his name from the land scandal, is set to face another action.

It has come to light that the then assembly speaker, Kagodu Thimmappa, had instructed the assembly secretary on June 6 this year to examine and put up a proposal about moving breach of privilege motion against the CS for failing to take the recommendation made by the regional and panchayat raj local bodies committee of the legislature to take action against the deputy commissioner (DC) of Davanagere.

The then Davanagere DC was facing the charge of utilizing funds running into several lacs of rupees for purposes which were not authorized. The local bodies committee of the legislature, after finding that interest earned on special grant deposited with the bank was utilized for unauthorized purposes instead of remitting to the government, had asked the CS to take disciplinary action against Davanagere DC on April 11 last.

Instead of following this instruction, Jadhav reportedly had asked chief secretary in the department of personnel and administrative reforms on April 16, asking the official to conduct detailed study in the matter of taking disciplinary action and to move proposal if found necessary. Angered by this, president of the committee had written to the assembly speaker to refer the matter to privileges committee for breach of privilege.
