Mumbai, Sep 1: Actor Aneet Padda, who rose to prominence with her leading role in the romantic musical drama Saiyaara, has announced her next project, Hunkkaar. The series, which was filmed before Saiyaara, will premiere on JioHotstar on September 25.
The teaser introduces Padda as Meenu Rawat, a 17-year-old student at Baapji's Shaburi Fort in Mahasherni School. In the opening sequence, Meenu is seen at a police station where she alleges that she was assaulted by Baapji.
Fatima Sana Shaikh plays a police inspector assigned to investigate the case, while the mystery surrounding Baapji forms a central part of the series. The teaser also features actors including Ram Kapoor, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, Arjun Mathur and Zoya Hussain.
Sharing the teaser on social media, Padda wrote, "Presenting a little something I shot before Saiyaara. Hunkkaar has been a part of my journey for a while, and I'm glad to finally share it with you all."
She described the series with the line, "Nahi hoga insaaf ka intezaar, bas goonjegi sachhai ki Hunkkaar", meaning that there will be no waiting for justice when the roar of truth rises.
Hunkkaar is produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment in association with Purple Pebble Pictures and is a Mangata Films production.
Padda began her career as a model while still a teenager and appeared in advertisements and promotional campaigns for several major brands. She made her acting debut with a small role in the Kajol-starrer Salaam Venky in 2022.
She received her first major breakthrough with the Amazon Prime Video series Big Girls Don't Cry, which premiered in 2024. She subsequently appeared in the television show Yuva Sapno Ka Safar.
Her career received a major boost in 2025 with Mohit Suri's Saiyaara, in which she starred opposite Ahaan Panday. The Yash Raj Films production became one of the biggest hits of the year, earning more than Rs 580 crore worldwide and emerging as the highest-grossing romantic film in Indian cinema history.
Padda received praise for her portrayal of a young songwriter diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease in the film. She will next be seen in Maddock Films' horror comedy Shakti Shalini.
