SC asks Karnataka to release 12,000 cusecs of Cauvery water

New Delhi, Sep 12 (Agencies) : The Supreme Court modified its order on the sharing of the Cauvery water on Monday and asked Karnataka to release 12,000 cusecs per day to Tamil Nadu till September 20.

The Court had earlier ordered Karnataka to release 15,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for 10 days.

The apex court expressed anguish over "tone and tenor" of Karnataka's plea.

"Citizens and executive of this country have to accept and obey order of the Supreme Court unless it is modified." Justice Dipak Misra observed.

Apex court decided to hold a hearing on Cauvery dispute though it is closed for a holiday.

Karnataka Government had asked Supreme Court to suspend September 5th order saying the agony claimed by Tamil Nadu on water crisis did not exist.

It also requested the apex court to reduce the quantum of water to be released from river Cauvery to Tamil Nadu, from 15,000 cusecs to 10,000 cusecs per day.

Just a thought. As of now, parts of Karnataka have risen in violent protests over release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu inspite of poor water situation in Karnataka. Even though violent protests and damage to public property is unjustified, the people over there feel so strongly about the water situation over there. The whole nation has sat up and taken notice. Flashback to few months ago in Dakshina Kannada district and what did we see happening during the protests against the unscientific Yettinahole project which seeks to take away water from DK and release it elsewhere. Did the government even consider our protests or even have an open ended discussion with the people over here. Did the state representatives, MP, ministers,MLAs and MLCs even exert any kind of pressure (even a nudge)to stop this project? Has there been any follow-up from the people who have been affected by land takeover issues or those people whose very existence will be affected if the river is diverted? Have we, the people made our voices heard to the deaf and uncaring politicians? No wonder, no one takes us people of DK seriously! What is the use of being a district with the highest number of educational institutes? Different parties only protest for different issues which will enhance their votebank share, but none of them join hands for a common cause which will mitigate the sufferings of the people. We only get nationwide attention when the moral police make their presence felt!

This is the ploy by the Siddus congress government to escape from the blame for the mismanagement of cauvery issue. Siddu should have resolved this long time back with top priority. As soon as the Central Govt was elected, constant dialogues with the center, PM , president should have taken off, highlighting the various pros & cons. Instead he ran to Sonia & RG with the issues. Siddus tenure todate is known for his arrogance, bhagyas, jayanthis, minority appeasement, favortism & nepotism. His ministers made lots of moolah and he 'looked' the other side. Now its time to shed crocodile tears. blame it on Modi & hope the gullible Ktaka people believe this.

My question:- what would be your judgement if there was no water in Cauvery dams?

Next year Karnataka need to play very intelligently. Release all the Cauvery water as soon as it arrives. Do not store it till September. Let land adjacent to river remain uncultivated. Let Bangalore make use of rain water available there.

We have useless central government which is acting like Dhritarashtra. It is the duty of central government to see that all states will get equal rights. If supreme court has to intervene in everything then why do we need central government? It is better to dissolve loksabha and rajya sabha. What our shameless BJP loksabha members or rajya sabha members are doing? If you don't fight for your state, resign and sit at work. We don't need you.
