Udupi, Sep 20: District BJP president Mattaru Rathnakar Hegde in a press conference condemned the terror attack in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir where 18 soldiers were killed. “We will send an appeal to Union government urging strict action against terrorists,” he said at Kediyoor hotel here on Tuesday, September 20.

Earlier, KPCC working president, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Udupi had said that Modi failed to keep peace in nation.

Lashing out at him, Mattaru Rathnakar Hegde said, “During the last ten years of Congress rule, as many as 707 people have lost their life, 3,200 injured and 14,000 soldiers were killed in terror attack in Jammu Kashmir. Everyone should get united in the matter of protecting the nation. No one should play politics in this issue.”

Replying to Dinesh Gundu Rao who had said BJP was misleading the public, Mattaru said, “Dinesh does not have any right to talk about BJP and its principles. The Congress party leaders Vishwanatha of Mysore, Janardhana Poojary of Mangaluru have themselves expressed the failure of state led congress government.”

Speaking about the intervention of Modi in Cauvery water dispute, he said, “Prime Minister cannot interfere in this issue while the case is in court. He does not have opportunity to speak on the issue. Supreme Court failed to assess the ground reality in passing out the verdict. No one has to any right to comment on a case while it is discussed in the court.”

Speaking about the crisis of sand in the coastal region, he said, “It is natural source not manmade. In past, we used sand as we wanted, but now the situation has changed. Traditional sand mining is an inherited job, but the government has imposed ban on it. Government has no clear stand policy.”

"Now-a-days sand is smuggled to other districts from Udupi and sold at Shimoga for Rs 25000-30000 per ton. District-in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj and Kaup MLA Vinay kumar Sorake should form sand policy soon.”

“The party members will hold a protest on sand crisis on September 22 in front of DC’s office Manipal, along with other likeminded unions. Minister in his election manifesto had promised to bring Rs 500 crore for the development of district hospital, Ajjarkad. If he brings at least Rs 5 crore funds now, it would help to provide basic infrastructures in the hospital.”

Hitting out at Sorake’s promise, Mattaru further said, “He promised to bring Rs 150 core for developing Kaup constituency, but so far he was able to sanction only Rs 1 core.”

“Yeddyurappa provided Rs 2 subsidy on animal husbandry during his term. But now the chief minister has increased the amount to Rs 4 and not a single paisa has been released from the government,” he said.

Kutyaru Naveen Shetty, general secretary Yashpal Suvarna, Ravi Amin, Katpady Shankar Poojary and others were present.
