Bengaluru, Sep 26: The alliance between Congress and JDS in Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike will continue. Talks between KPCC president, G Parameshwar, and state JDS president, H D Kumaraswamy, have succeeded in working out a formula.

JDS had earlier considered the option of walking out of the alliance because of betrayal by some of its legislators during rajya sabha election arguably at the behest of the minister, D K Shivakumar. These members were the once who played a pivotal role in striking an alliance between these two parties last year by working as mediators. Again, the relationship was strained as JDS, in spite of having fewer corporators, had demanded the post of the mayor. BJP perhaps was not too keen on working out an alliance, and it stuck to the stand that the post of mayor should go to it.

Now the parties have agreed that the post of the mayor will go to Congress, and that of the deputy to JDS. Election to the posts of mayor, deputy mayor, and 12 standing committee chairpersons of the Palike will be held on September 28. JDS had to finally relent and agree to vest the post of the mayor this time with Congress. Kumaraswamy has, it is learnt, staked claim to presidentships of six of the standing committees out of 12, and Parameshwar has promised to contact him after discussing the matter with top leaders of the party.
