Bengaluru: Sahitya Academy announces honorary and book awards

Bengaluru, Sep 27: Karnataka Sahitya Academy has announced the names of persons and works chosen by it for honorary award for the year 2015 and book award for 2014. The announcement was made by president of the academy, Prof Malathi Pattanashetty, at a press conference she addressed at Kannada Bhavan here on Monday September 26.

The president announced that cash component of the awards has been increased to five times of the previous amount this time. "Writers, Dr Krishnamurty Hanur, Dr H S Shivaprakash, Dr L Hanumanthaiah, Nemichandra, and Dr H Nagaveni have been chosen for honorary awards, 2015. The honorary awards now come with cash component of Rs 50,000 as against 10,000 given earlier," she stated.

'Nanna Shabda Ninnali Bandu' by K P Mrityunjaya, 'Adukala' novel by Sridhar Balagar, 'Dinachari Kade Putadinda' by Jayashree Kasaravalli, 'Devanampriya Ashoka' by M Byregowda, 'Arthartha' by M S Sriram, 'Apoorva Poorva' by Venkatesh Machakanur, 'Ananda Kumaraswamy' by G B Harish, 'Bayala Bani' authored by Ravikumar Neesha, 'Kanakadasara Keertanegalu' by T N Nagaratna, 'Belagutiruva Bharata' by A K Rameshwar, 'Quantum Jagattu' by Agni Sridhar, and 'Virachita Nambike, Moodhanambike, vaijnanika Manovritti' by M Abdul Rehman have been picked for book awards. These awards will carry cash component of Rs 25,000 in place of 5,000 given earlier.

Malathi stated that the awards function will be held at Chitradurga on October 25 and 26.
