Special status to University College by UGC: Moily

Mangaluru, Sep 28: “UGC has bestowed the special heritage status and has also sanctioned Rs 1.83 crore under the scheme for the renovation of Ravindra Kala Bhawan. As the College completes 150 years in 2018, we look forward to finishing the renovation work before the anniversary celebration,” said former union minister Dr M Veerappa Moily.

He was delivering a lecture to mark founder's day celebration and inauguration of students' mid-day meals and development programme at University College Hampankatte here on Tuesday September 27.

“In future, this college should be among the fifth topmost colleges of excellence in the country. Knowledge will light your future. The university college has seen drastic changes in recent times. My studies in the college library and university have inspired me to write books. Words of inspiration will always help individuals to grow.”

“In life, the roughest roads lead us to the highest position. India has got huge youth potential and we much utilize it for the development of our nation. Nothing is impossible in this world. Do not neglect any student and provide conducive environment for them. Poor students should be given special attention,” added the minister.

MP Nalin Kumar inaugurated the media lab and audio studio at the University College. MLA Abhayachandra Jain inaugurated the student’s midday meal programme.

MLA Abhayachandra Jain and VC professor Bhyrappa donated Rs 25,000 each for the midday meal.

VC also announced that journalist Manohar Prasad contributed his honorary remuneration of the university to midday meals. He also announced that he would set up a special committee and advisory board to celebrate the 150th celebration throughout the year with special seminars, sports and cultural events.

“On Vijayadashmi, renovation work will start and on October 15 NAAC committee will be visiting the college,” he informed.

Dr M A Udayakumar principal of University College was also present.
