Udupi, Oct 2: "Gandhi was a conscious person and a model for all. He was not a person but a unique power. Gandhi fought for getting basic amenities for poor. Gandhi is more relevant today than before. His principles are universal,” said eminent Gandhian thinker and writer Aroor Manjunath Rao on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti celebration on Sunday, October 2 held at new Ravindra Kala Mantapa.

The programme was organized by Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College Udupi in collaboration Gandhi studies Centre.

Addressing the gathering, Rao said, “Sharing portion of our income to poor adds true meaning to our life. Help the needy and a positive transformation will envelope yourself.”

“TV, internet, mobile and cinema are affecting youths in a negative way. Today’s children do not have interest on rational subject. Imparting Gandhian principles should start from home and then schools. But it is not happening at present. Children need proper guidance.”

“If a person follows five principles in life which are concern for environment, healthy life style, humour and Gandhian principles, his life will be fulfilled,” he added.

Speaking on Gandhi’s principles, Manjunath said, “Fasting is the last weapon to fight for justice. This should not be used to gain selfish motives.”

Prof Kusuma Kamath, principal of the college presided over the programme. Malathi Devi, principal of PU College was present. Vineeth Rao, organizer welcomed the gathering. Suchit Kotian, Lecturer compered the programme.
