Bengaluru, Oct 3: Karnataka has got the chance to create history by elevating senior IPS officer, Neelamani N Raju, senior most director general of police, to the post of director general and inspector general of police (DG-IG) of the state. By making this choice, the state can compensate for not giving the post of the state chief secretary to a woman in spite of her being the senior-most officer in the category who had satisfied all the eligible criteria.

None of the women officers had risen to the post of DG-IG although there had been women DGPs earlier in the state. The state had got back services of Neelamani, a 1983 batch IPS officer, who was in central deputation since 1993, in March this year. She was made DGP of internal security division after she reported back here.

However, two male DGPs are also in the race for the post. They are sure to give a tough fight to Neelamani. Although it is said that Neelamani is the forerunner for the post at present, possibilities of one of her adversaries getting the better of her cannot be ruled out.
