Mangaluru, Oct 4: In a rare incident in the region, 8 persons armed with revolvers and other weapons barged into a house at Gidikere and walked away with 82 sovereign of gold and Rs 50,000 cash in the early hours of Tuesday, October 4.

The armed robbery took place at the house of Vasudev Asranna, one from the family of Kateel Durgaparameshwari temple administrators. He is also a hereditary priest of the temple.

8 armed robbers came to the house in a vehicle after midnight and took away 82 sovereign of gold and Rs 50,000 cash after they threatened four occupants of the house, three women and a man.

Bajpe police inspector T V Nagaraj with his personnel arrived at the place to take up further investigations. Finger print experts and canine squad too have visited the place.

shocking! Armed robbery was unheard of at Mangalore and adjoining areas I am shocked that such incidences are happening here. Feeling very sad and upset about teh whole episode. High time the police do strict might patrolling and prevent these kinds of incidences. I am sure we will catch the thieves who robbed the house.

District administration should give arm licences to people who require that.

If this asrannna had a weapon he could have easily saved his hard earned money.

I think weapons are very much required nowadays. People should opt for that..

    Mr. Prabhu,

I agree with you, undisputedly. However, the profession has gotten so much into him that a look at his bare chest makes one wonder which gender it belongs to.

Hence Shankar and Anand exchanged pertinent comments. Will my apology on their behalf suffice ?

These days it pays to be a poojari in a temple or a priest in a Church. Gone are those days when performing religious duties was considered a vocation - it has not become a profession.

    Vishal,

I am a sister of two priests who work as Missionaries. Whom, we sisters pool in expenses during their vacation. I can't say the same about other denominations. Note, in other communities sisters go to their parents/brothers home for a feast but its reversed in my family.

As for temple priests, the profession is surely a noble one. I met a priest who was MBA in Finance. However, the bane is that girls don't find this profession glamorous. There are complains that priests do not get suitable proposals and many forgo marriage after several attempts.

Vishal Mangalore,I think you have a quite wrong idea about priests.Priests have to give account of each and every paisa they recieve and donations and sendto Bishop. He gives their monthly salary .It is no Need to say ,very poor.No Need of further discriptions.Just see Bhats wearing thick heavy chain,.That tells everything.

Do Mangaluru Police go about in Innova Cars ? Certainly not. Then, those two large cars and one more heavy vehicle may be the property of the house occupants ? This adds up to the approx. 656 grams of gold and 50,000/- in cash that was stolen.

Weren't I in argument with one reader here that the entire collection of the temples go to the government ? How much are the priests paid to be accumulating this much wealth ?

Shouldn't be my business - should it ?

    RS,

Two principle I followed, always. (1) Call spade, a spade - whether it pertains to my own religion or of others. (2) Do not take abuse silently because one abuse when tolerated lying down, it rises to two and three or more.

I wish you too adopt this policy and respond to me when I call spade a spade regarding topics of your community. Its your wish to name it as criticism - I don't care. Unless you discuss and resolve the differences, you will continue to call me to be changing philosophy at convenience. For that matter one person I highly respect here, is Shankar. Thank you Shankar for whatever and however you are.

To give you an example of my neutrality, please scroll up and read what I told to Vishal. I don't know which community Vishal belongs but my respect to revered individuals of both communities displayed there.

I am available to comment further if you did not understand what I have said.

    PS,

Why should you contribute to the 'Hundi' while you know that the collection goes to the government ? Well, I am not discouraging you from contributing, you are aware that temples are bound by Endowment Act. Accordingly, the government is managing upkeep of temples - please correct me if I am wrong. There is BJP, pro-Hinduism government at the centre. Why don't you start a revelation to change the practice ?

Churches on the other hand are registered as private entity. Whatever is collected is accounted for and taxes at a common man's rate is paid. Please come forward with it if you have any problem with this system.

Atleast now onwards Asrannas should stop throwing Gandha Prasada towards devotees.
It is a sacred thing which has to be placed gently on devotees palms.
