Mangaluru: 'Namma Traffic' technology initiative to solve people's problems

Mangaluru, Oct 4: The police force, particularly operating in Dakshina Kannada district, are now relying more and more on technology as they find it a convenient medium to get to know about the problems bothering the citizens and tackle the problems to the best of their abilities.

'Namma Traffic', a technology initiative undertaken by the police towards handling traffic issues as per the suggestion by the citizens, is available on WhatsApp and Facebook. Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, insists that this innovative experiment helps people to get traffic problems solved by bringing them to the notice of police. Under this, the people are invited to post pictures of traffic violations through WhatsApp No. 9480805300. The SP said that action taken details on these complaints would be posted on police blog, www.dkpolice.blogspot.in.

 

He has assured that confidentiality of details of complainants would be ensured as the additional superintendent of police and police inspector of the control room are the only persons having access to this information. In addition to ensuring public participation in traffic discipline, he said that police personnel will also be more alert on account of this initiative.

The SP added that those who get in touch by posting in WhatsApp or Facebook will be informed about the action taken on their complaints. "We are trying to have tie-up with regional transport authority for sending challans to traffic violators by post wherever required. We have taken the work of streamlining of traffic in all seriousness and use of technology we hope, will help in this endeavour," he stated.

    Now we have two lane roads in most of the city surroundings,but as i observed while driving that you have a space to drive in only one lane,the other is used as either parking or as footpath. Its sad to say that the pedestrians doesn't have a foot path to walk,forget about Jogging or Cycling.....Rectify all these then talk about Namma Traffic.

    we always see people in Mangalore using High beam when driving on the Roads. It blinds the opposite lane Drivers.Secondly the guidelines given are for our safety to reach back to loved ones.
    Try to be defensive when driving ,look for dangers that could harm you and your family.
    Do not drive when not required. Ask whether you need to do the trip? Take sufficient breaks when doing a long journeys.Don't drive at night in a place that you are not familiar with.Educate Kids the dos and don't as they are going to be tomorrows citizens.Lastly accidents are caused and can be very well avoided.
    Punish the drivers who abuse the law by sending them back to community classes to observe and follow the Road Rules.. We need this as Mangalore is a Smart City.

    Even we can do our part from the parents point of view.Now when we give a brand new bike to our children the first point to advice them is to ride slowly and to wear proper helmet and by giving them the new bike or by handing over the key tell me that I am giving from my hard earned money.Dont give this vehicle to any of your friends and you should keep up my promise.

    Please restrict with a speed limit within the city whoever does not follow place a radar to fine them min 1000rs so that they wont repeat it again. Speed limit all over the city is very important as well as signals planted inside & outside the should work properly. Then automatically accident & traffic violations will reduce. Also public cooperation is very important for the rules by following it.

    The traffic department should get smart and install new radar systems that detect photograph and fine drivers who drive in an erratic way.

    These smart radars will reduce the likelihood of drivers committing offences and can be used to monitor erratic driving, poor lane discipline, tailgating, dangerous overtaking etc.

    Mangalore public have frustration against traffic problems of DK. However, those who want to take out the frustration this whatsapp number of traffic police would help a lot. No matter if Traffic Police would take action or not. Honestly, they can't tackle each and every issues. By the by, One of the worst traffic conditions are seen in this part of the world.

    great initiative by the authorities. driving on the wrong side with signals on is the funniest thing happening in our city and villages. if speed of buses and trucks is regulated then 90% of the accidents can be prevented along with following basic traffic rules. suspending of License is another rule which will bring discipline in driving.

    IT SHOULD BE BOTH IN LETTER AND SPIRIT AND IF IT CAN RESPOND TO PUBLIC GRIEVANCE SWIFTLY THRU MEDIA THEN MORE PEOPLE WILL PARTICIPATE.

    FOR EX. THERE SHOULD NOT BE SCOPE FOR VEHICLES TO PARK ON EITHER SIDE OF HIGHWAYS FOR LOADING/UNLOADING ESPECIALLY DURING PEAK HOURS WHICH IS THE MAIN PROBLEM EVERYWHERE.
    IN SPITE OF SO MANY REQUESTS POLICE NEVER TAKE ACTION IN SUCH INSTANCE.
