Kundapur: Man washed away in water while helping cow cross lake

Kundapur, Oct 4: A man who was trying to get a cow to cross a lake has fallen in it himself after losing balance, being washed away by the current.

The incident took place at Halnadu, near Kandlooru, in Kundapur taluk at about 1 PM on October 3. The man has been identified as Kishore Shetty(48), a local. He used to get the cow to cross the Varahi lake, which is about one-and-a-half kilometre away from his house, to let it graze on the hill on the other side of the lake. He used to swim back across the lake and bring the cow back in the afternoons.



















































He was returning home with the cow, on Monday afternoon. He had tied a dog to his waist when he swam However, he lost balance and drowned in the water. Onlookers had said that the dog was helplessly pushing Kishore when he was drowning. One of the onlookers raised an alarm to call the locals, but not much could be done, as the water current was quite strong.


Locals searched for Kishore in the water but could not find him. Therefore, the fire brigade staff along with the local youth  conducted the search. Kishore could not be traced till evening. A police case has been registered in the Kundapur police station.
