Mangaluru: Boat capsizes at Panambur beach, 2-year-old dies

Mangaluru, Oct 5:  The boat accident that took place on Wednesday night of October 5 at Panambur is one of the rarest in the area though the place is known as a death trap for many who came for swimming here. Boat mishap has not taken place in the recent past.

A boat capsized at Panambur beach on Wednesday and a boy aged 2 and half years died as a result. Six other persons, who were in the boat, have been rescued.

Mohammed Sadan is the boy deceased.

Shamith from Natekal near city, who is presently a resident of Dubai, had come home on holidays and taken his family for outing at Panambur beach.  

A giant wave hit the boat which in turn overturned, said sources.

Mohammed Sadan is son of Shamith.

    1. The boating company should strictly adhere the tide log from Coast guards to identify the high and the low tide forecast.
    2. Apart from life jackets , every boat should have a buoy.
    3. The boat rider must be also qualified to rescue in case of emergency.

    So sad, tragedy is that an innocent 02 year old life has gone.Safety measures could be in place, but how many follow it is the question? There are life saving Guards around all beaches in Mangalore, but their requests and warnings go un-heard most of the times. Sympathies to the bereaved family members and May this Young Angelic Soul Rest in Peace with God.

    In Dubai, when we visited a Mall, there was a boat ride for kids. The water in the artificial canal was hardly 1.5 feet deep but the staff were not allowing children less than particular height for safety. They were strict. Here we see a two year kid being taken in a boat into a sea. What is the safety standard? Because of this we lost a precious two year kid. Feeling very sad about the kid and also very angry about our safety standard and rules. Parents being educated also should not have forgotten about the safety of the kid in their moment of enjoyment. This is also a reminder for others to be careful.

    extremely sad. May the little angel RIP. Those who have not followed safety measures including the operator should be booked for negligence leading to intentional death becos they knew very well it is unsafe.

    We should never take kids until certain age to the place(water etc) where risk is more. Even if we take we should be mentally prepared and take necessary step before getting into it..

    Better not to go for such a jolly boat ride with such small babies. Its a great tragedy. As suggested by all comentators it is better to wear life jacket.

    Sad - This was a accident waiting to happen as there is no safety rules followed by any operators on the beach. Everyone wakes up when something like this happens and then the party involved will pay some fine (Bribe) to the authorities and things are back to normal. Other countries have a rule set with the size of the boat, number of people who could sail, and to be seated all the time, height and age of the guest and also wear a life vest at all time once in the boat doubt if any of the rule was followed. Smart city really - for eg- they make so much money just from the parking is there any safety, if there is theft, they say they are not in charge and why the heck do we have to pay for parking when there is no safety at all - and is the money used for any betterment of the facility or goes to some ones pocket ? Looooog way to go my friends - Good luck.
