Mangaluru, Oct 5: “As the Konkani Prachar Sanchalan completes its 10th year, we will be celebrating its decennial celebrations on Sunday October 9 at Don Bosco hall,” said Lawrence D' Souza, president of Konkani Prachara Sanchalan.
He was addressing a press meet at press club here on Wednesday October 5.
"Mangalore diocese Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, MLA JR Lobo and MLC Ivan D'Souza will be the chief guests. Konkani Sahitya Academy president Roy Castellino will be the honorary chief guest. Lawrence D'Souza, president of Konkani Prachara Sanchalana will be the guest of honour on the occasion."
Konkani Prachar Sanchalan is working hard towards introducing Konkani in schools as the third language.
President Lawrence further said, “To preserve Konkani language, Konkani Prachara Sanchalan has taken up various initiatives such as;
Visit to schools: During the months of April, May and June, Konkani Prachara Sanchalan visited schools of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi and held meetings with headmasters and students. Whenever possible, we also organized parents-teachers awareness meeting on learning Konkani.
Konkani Education Awareness Campaign: Four such campaigns have already been organized in Utara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts. Awareness is being brought through street plays, distributing handouts and banners.
Training to Konkani teachers: As the Konkani teachers were not appointed in schools, Konkani Sahithya Academy along with Public Education Department and Diet organized two training programmes per year.
Cultural programme for children: To create Konkani learning environment in schools, we have organized Konkani Children's Day and cultural programmes.
Free distribution of school text books: After purchasing the text books, we distributed them among the Konkani learning students free of cost.
Teachers Annual Convention: Konkani Teachers Convention was organized and we honoured them with honorarium, under the Mandd Sobahan Konakani Shresta Shiksha/ki awards.”
Roy Castellino the president of Konkani Sahitya Academy, James D'Souza the secretary of Konkani Prachara Sanchalan, Eric Ozario from Mandd Sobhann and Fr Alwyn Serrao from Padua college were present during the press meet.
