Mangaluru, Oct 6: Bajpe police have been continuing with their efforts to find out the culprits behind the armed robbery which took place at Kateel on the night of Monday. A gang had entered the house of Vasudeva Asranna, hereditary trustee and chief priest of Goddess Durgaparameshwari temple when he was away, threatened the family members at gunpoint and assaulted them before making good their escape with cash and gold ornaments worth several lacs of rupees.

A team of four police that has been formed to investigate this case has already taken into custody and questioned several suspects. They have also been gathering information from different angles. The police feel that locals were involved with this robbery as they were speaking in Tulu and broken Hindi.

As a mobile phone that was snatched away by the robbers was found on a nearby hillock, police feel that they would have gone away through this route after committing the crime. The fact that the robbers completed their task with precision within a short span of ten minutes indicates that they knew the area well, it is being analyzed.

The robbers took away booty worth Rs 33.50 lac comprising Rs 30,000 in cash and 650 grams of gold ornaments. The department has accepted this robbery as a challenge and its personnel have been making all out effort to arrest the robbers and put them behind bars.

Information received from Venoor revealed that a gang of ten which came in a Tata Sumo Gold vehicle on Sunday night and alighted near Lord Mahalingeshwara temple there, had threatened a petty shop owner nearby when he asked them what they wanted. It is said that they bolted the door of a nearby house, kicked the door, and posed threats, before speeding away on Naravi road. Although the petty shopkeeper conveyed information to Venoor police, nothing could be done as police came a lot later, it is gathered. While it is said that the vehicle number has been noted down by the locals, proper verification of CCTV cameras in front of the police station and other establishments might help in finding out the identity of the vehicle, the people feel.

We pay our contributions to the Church by personal checks. Last month our church introduced POS machine to pay the contributions/donations by credit card. Paying by check/credit card may be a good idea for safety and accountability in the future for all the prayer places. No Cash.

Asrannas never ask devotees for dakshina...devotees offer dakshina voluntarily with great reverence as per Hindu customs.Like others Asrannas too pay Income tax. Many people doesnt know how these priests toil in the temple to look after thousands of devottes visiting daily. They has no working time and working inside sanctum santoram for hrs together in heat doing pooja is not a joke. Many times they have to work beyond 18 hrs a day.Unrelated people/public feeling jealousy will damage themselves internally. This natures truth.
