Udupi, Oct 6: The last rites of a monkey which was electrocuted were performed religiously here in the office of Adi Udupi forest officer in the leadership of social worker Nithyananda Olakadu and forest officials on Thursday, October 6.

The male monkey was electrocuted when it was trying to cross an electric pole to another, near head post office in city.

Nithyananda Olakadu who received information about this news, called forest officials to the place. Meanwhile a woman also informed the corporation office which sent a worker. The worker put the dead monkey in a sack and took it to Beedinagudde. Nithyananda Olakadu who was anguished with it got the corporation officer bring back the monkey.

Nithyananda kept the dead monkey on a white cloth and kept flowers and Agarbattis on it while beating drum. The local people with reverence kept money near the dead animal.

The monkey was later brought to the office of local forest officer in an ambulance. It was kept on firewood. Ghee was poured on it before setting it on fire.

The collected money will be offered to Mukhyaprana deity and the ashes will be put at Malpe Vadambadeshwara Sea, the people decided after the funeral.
