Bantwal: Python-tamer back home, encounters another one in courtyard

Daijiworld Media Network - Bantwal (SP)

Bantwal, Oct 7: Vaishakh (11) from Kolake near Sajipa in the taluk, who valiantly fought with a python which had pounced on him, attacked him and was tightening its grip around his body, was discharged from Fr Muller Medical College Hospital Mangaluru on Thursday October, having been treated for his injuries and possible infection.

Strangely, as soon as he reached home, the family members saw that a python made its appearance in the courtyard of his home. This gave rise to tense moments for the family members and neighbours. It could not be confirmed whether it was the same reptile which attached Vaishakh on Tuesday. As people gathered, the python escaped behind the bushes. Although the people searched the area, they could not find it.

Vaishakh in hospital

It may be recalled that Vaishakh was attacked by a python from behind the bushes when returning alone from the house of his grandfather. He faced extreme danger, but showing presence of mind, had hit the eye region of the python with a stone nearby at which the python had loosened its grip and scampered away. Vaishakh was rushed to hospital with several injuries made of python bites.

Locals say that the area where Vaishakh lives is deserted, and a dumping yard is located nearby. The dump attracts animals and also reptiles. The problem is compounded by the fact that many people from the region who catch hold of snakes and pythons release them in this area.

Snakes expert, Gururaj Sanil, said that pythons go in search of more food during October and November as they consume less food between December to February, which happens to be their mating season. He has advised people not to become unduly panicky about them.

Snake will keep enmity for 12 years. So may be the Python has come to catch and swallow the boy in revenge as he hit the python on his head and get himself released from the clutches of python. Indeed one should praise the courage of the boy. Better to catch the python and get it back to the jungle.

Kandodi (Rattle snakes) bites don't heal - extreme infection develops and the area looks like rotten. Well, this is what I head - I am not a specialist.

Probably because the boy was taken to the hospital and due to adequate treatment, no deteriorating signs are apparent.

How many of you believe that reptiles garner revenge ? A DW reader wrote here that somebody had injured a snake and fled the place. The man returned to the village after very long time and when he went to a particular place and moved a log for some work, a snake in a near to death state, bit him and died.

I am not superstitious but I heard about a similar incident from a skillful snake catcher.
