Bantwal, Oct 8: A policeman has been accused of behaving rudely with a widow, an elderly man and another man at Deppoligein Peraje within Vittal police station limits. The policeman also threatened these persons and destroyed crops, the complaint sent to district superintendent of police (SP) says.

Rukmaya Gowda (32) is the policeman who has been named in the complaint. He is from Deppoligein Peraje and works as assistant sub-inspector at Bantwal rural police station.

Rukmaya Gowda allegedly threatened a widow named Mohini who is also a panchayat member, Parameshwara Naik, an elderly man and Adam, a driver. Rukmaya also destroyed coconut and banana trees from their lands, it is alleged.

The incident took place on October 4, it is said.

Rukmaya came drunk with his wife on that day and showed the victims a machete and also assaulted Parameshwara Naik. He was also about to attack Mohini who intervened, the complaint says.

Rukmaya also told them that he would burn their houses if they dared to complain against him.

Parameshwara Naik has been admitted to Wenlcok hospital in Mangaluru.  It is also said that Rukmaya had assaulted Shivappa Poojary from the same location on June 5 and a police complaint was lodged at Vittal police station about it. But no action was taken to date on that issue.

The complainants have sent the photo and video evidence with the complaint.

There is a land dispute and without an enquiry we cannot say who is right and who is wrong. But one thing can be said very confidently. The policemen is physically unfit and should be dismissed from service for that reason. It is surprising to see that policemen in this physical condition have been permitted by the authorities to continue to function.

From the video it seems that the dispute is purely because of land and both parties are equally abusive and it is not correct to blame the police only, but we do not know to whom the land actually belongs to. panchayat has to intervene and settle the land problem immediately.

@SKM Mangalore, whoever the land belongs, the Police or a third Person has not the right to destroy the plants ,and threaten anyone.Suppose it is his own,he definately not done even in drunken stage.and his wife would certainly kept him back. There are People who try to Show their Position as Police or govt.servent to the ordinaryones.Shame on him.People should have immediately call some other Police at that time.Video is not enough to proove.Afterall he was not in uniform or duty,so could file case on him.Lets see how it Ends.

By seeing the video it doesn't seem the gentleman showing his police position. He was fighting like any other neighbour and the opposite side is also equally abusive. From what we can understand from his in red shirt says that, PDO had asked the people to main status quo and his neighbhours are not abiding it.

Going by the video, Rukmaya is not drunk. I don't think he has attacked anybody. Other party was trying to make him attack them..!!!??? Recording shows. It is a false complaint as per me. Let us wait and watch.
