Karkala, Oct 9: Over 20 people suddenly entered survey No. 105 at Chara village near Hebri in the talk on Saturday October 8 and tied to acquire government land spread over 40 acres thereby setting up residences with the help of cement sheets. Alert officials raided the spot and got the land cleared of encroachments.

It is gathered that some people had intelligently tried to make best use of serial holidays to government offices by hoodwinking officials. Immediately after he came to know about the development, tahsildar here sent revenue inspector and a team of officials to the spot to evacuate the forcible dwellers. Ciara gram panchayat president, Sandeep, panchayat housing committee member, Dinesh Shetty, accompanied by officials, too visited the spot.

There had been ongoing tussle over the possession of 40 acres of land here since the last nine years between the first department and people. A case about this aspect had been pending in high court. In 2014, the high court had held this land to be belonging to revenue department.

Former president of the local panchayat and 'Ashraya Sites' activist, Nire Krishna Shetty, who had been in the forefront in filing litigation and getting favorable verdict about this land, condemned the effort to occupy this land by some people who are financially stable. He felt that this land would be used for being distributed among homeless destitute and for other purposes for government schemes.
