Mangaluru: Year after - absence of solid witness affects Prashanth murder case

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Oct 10: The ghastly murder of flower vendor and Hindu activist, Prashanth Poojary, in the wee hours here, which had given rise to turmoil in the district and hit national headlines, turned a year old on October 9. Even after a year, actual purpose behind this murder remains shrouded in mystery.

Although a case stands registered and 17 persons have been named as accused, want of strong and stable evidences and lack of eyewitnesses have delivered a blow to the investigation of the case. The case is in a phase of being dismissed for want of conclusive proof.

Prashanth Poojary, son of Anand Poojary from Biravu in Hosabettu village, who operated his flower vending business near the bus stand here along with his father, was killed by unknown assailants. Prashanth, who was an active activist of Hindu organizations, had taken a lead in raids on illegal slaughterhouses including Gantalkatte here, stopping illegal cattle trafficking etc.

As was his practice, Prashanth was bringing water to his flower shop in the early hours on October 9 last year, when six persons, who came in three motor bikes, attacked him with lethal weapons. By the time he was taken to a hospital at Mangaluru, Prashanth had breathed his last. Within hours thereafter, the news got flashed all over the state. The town observed bandh for three days, and religious and political leaders including from the state level visited Poojary's house to pledge solidarity with the grieving family.

BJP leaders had blamed the government for this incident and state level bandh was about to be organized. Relating to the incident, it was even said that the then minister and current MLA, Abhaychandra Jain, had got threat calls from underworld fugitive, Ravi Poojary.

As the agitations and processions built pressure on them, the police had made three arrests within ten days of the murder. In course of time, they made further arrests. Muhammed Sirajuddin from Ullal, Muhammed Mustafa from Bajpe, Mustafa Kavoor, Muhammed Hanif Adyar, Akbar Volal Adyarpadavu, Kabir Kandavara, Muhammed Nawaz Mangaluru, Muhammed Shariff Todar, Muhammed Illyas from Prantya here, Tajuddin from Bajpe, Muhammed Irshad, Muhammed Anwar, Muhammed Mustafa, Muhammed Rasheed, Ibrahim Likhayat, Badruddin Gantalkatte and Imtiaz, were the accused arrested. They have been charged with murder, conspiracy, forming illegal groups etc. Hearing in the case had begun on January 25, 2016.

Although this incident had threatened to vitiate the atmosphere and destroy communal harmony for which the town is known, the citizens showed restraint and saw that the image of the town did not suffer. Moreover, after the murder of Prashanth, no incidents which could have affected communal harmony happened here.

Even now, actual reason for which Prashanth was killed has not been found. There is no enough evidence to prove that pre-existing enmity was the cause of this murder. Because of lack of a solid witness and circumstantial evidences, the actual facts behind this murder have not yet been revealed.

I am a Hindu and I love and respect all religions. My neighbors, my friends and my patients are all from different communities. I never differentiate people on the basis of religion. This is the only way to live a happy and peaceful life in the middle of differences. This is India and our mantra should be unity in diversity.

People get killed when they create a havoc for a community. Because you destroyed a communal fabric of the peaceful society. You get killed because you don’t believe in co-existence of another community and another religion.
People eat Beef on their own choice.
If they steal the cows then catch them and handover to police.
If they buy cows and transport it to butchery then complaint to the police to check if it is legal or illegal.
When people catch and beat innocent people who bought cattle for sale and what more you expect.
There is a Police system in the country and the majority people think that they are above the law when it comes stop a cattle transport vehicle.

To strengthen your argument you went on to build story that he has beaten up and humiliated people.. But you dont have the basic knowledge that the lone eye witness was forced to commit suicide within 2 days.. with that there is no one other eye witness in that early morning. That is the power of innocent people according to you.. well, go on with abusing the victim with new stories and glorify the murderers... LOL

Young, promising life lost and parents and family are made to suffer for no reason. Lesson learnt from his death: Mind your own business, please do not interfere with others. Live and let live. This is a secular democracy and let people have freedom. Do not encroach upon others' rights. You do not take law into your own hands. There is law and order to take care of anti socials. Be good and go good. If the above policy was followed this tragedy could have been very well avoided.

The important lesson every one must learn 1. Try to be honest and follow the good moral.

    2. Do not take any law in your hand best thing is avoid your identity and inform law and order personals.
    3. When you have enemies and having threat to your life inform law & order department and always be with some one not attack but to escape.
    4. Helping any politicians or any religious groups other than charity will end up either death or hatred. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Live a life that you must enjoy it and also others must feel comfortable too.

A hindu would look forward for justice for victim and punishment to the murderer whoever they may be. Truth and justice must prevail, that is a typical hindu thought.

You seem to be content with the killing of a fellow citizen and sees no fault in his murder as he is not hindu of your category.. what a utter nonsense.

There is no doubt that he has been killed by those whose slaughter houses which he raided. Raiding slaughter houses was none of his business. Instead of raiding the houses he should have informed the police if he has any information of cow slaughter. Prashanth poojary died the death he deserved.

As everyone knows people doesnot come forward to depose before the court and this case is not an exception. After all he was a hindu activist who came to lime light because of his association with hindu outfits.

This case might end in aquittalfor want of evidence but people like prashanth poojary whose habit was to raid slaughter houses have learnt a lesson.
